
Payroll Clerk (Temporary - 6 Month Contract)

The Role
The Payroll Clerk is responsible for accurately processing and maintaining all court-ordered and voluntary wage garnishments, such as child support, tax levies, and creditor garnishments. This role ensures legal compliance and timely responses to agencies while maintaining confidentiality and attention to detail in payroll-related functions. In addition, the position provides support for payroll timekeeping administration through routine audits, system maintenance, and reporting to promote accurate payroll processing.
What You'll Do
- Receive, review, and interpret wage garnishment orders, including child support, tax levies, and creditor garnishments.
- Enter garnishment data accurately into the payroll system as needed and ensure timely deductions.
- Ensure compliance with federal and state laws regarding wage withholding limits.
- Communicate with agencies, courts, and legal departments as necessary to verify information or respond to inquiries.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records and files on all garnishment orders.
- Monitor and track the status of garnishments, including start, stop, and modification orders.
- Perform regular, often weekly or per-pay-cycle, reconciliations comparing wage deductions against payments made to ensure compliance with laws.
- Assist employees with garnishment-related questions and provide support while maintaining confidentiality.
- Work closely with a third party vendor to ensure payroll accuracy and legal compliance.
- Monitor timecard approvals and maintain manager access within the timekeeping system.
- Reconcile payroll and timekeeping data between Oracle and UKG Dimensions.
- Generate payroll/timekeeping reports and perform data reconciliations using Excel.
- Assist with payroll processing and other timekeeping-related activities as assigned.
What We're Looking For:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 1–3 years of experience in payroll, accounting, or a related administrative role.
- Familiarity with wage garnishment laws and payroll practices.
- Experience using payroll and/or timekeeping systems (e.g., Oracle, UKG Dimensions, ADP) is preferred.
- Experience running reports, performing reconciliations, and working with Excel.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive employee information.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
The salary range represents base pay only and does not include short-term or long-term incentive compensation.
