Position Description
The Portfolio Manager supports the growth, management, and ongoing servicing of the Bank's loan participation portfolio. This role works closely with Capital Markets Directors, lending partners, and internal stakeholders to evaluate participation opportunities, coordinate transaction execution, monitor portfolio performance, and help ensure credit quality and customer service standards are maintained.
Working as part of the Capital Markets team, the Portfolio Manager supports the full lifecycle of loan participation transactions, from opportunity evaluation and underwriting support through approval coordination, portfolio monitoring, and ongoing relationship management. The role serves as a key liaison among lending, credit, legal, syndications, and loan administration teams to facilitate successful transaction execution and portfolio management.
The position combines credit analysis, portfolio management, transaction coordination, and relationship support responsibilities. The Portfolio Manager helps identify opportunities that support the Bank's growth, diversification, and income objectives while ensuring activities are conducted in accordance with Bank policies, procedures, and risk management standards.
Operating with a high degree of professionalism and sound business judgment, the Portfolio Manager represents Farm Credit Bank of Texas both internally and externally while supporting the Farm Credit System's mission of serving agriculture and rural communities.
Day-to-Day Duties and Responsibilities
- Support the growth and servicing of a portfolio of loan participations by partnering with Capital Markets Directors and internal stakeholders.
- Evaluate new participation opportunities through analysis of financial statements, borrower performance, industry trends, credit risks, loan structures, and eligibility requirements.
- Assist in developing transaction recommendations and supporting documentation for internal approval processes.
- Coordinate participation approval activities and facilitate communication among credit, legal, syndications, lending, and loan administration teams.
- Review credit agreements and related loan documents to identify key terms, covenants, reporting requirements, borrower obligations, and risk considerations.
- Monitor portfolio performance and borrower compliance with financial covenants, reporting requirements, and loan terms.
- Support relationship management activities with originating lenders and other counterparties.
- Maintain accurate portfolio, transaction, and servicing information within reporting and monitoring systems.
- Manage multiple priorities and deadlines while ensuring commitments, servicing activities, and portfolio monitoring responsibilities are completed timely and accurately.
- Assist with portfolio reporting, transaction updates, and management presentations.
- Participate in customer meetings, internal discussions, and occasional travel to support portfolio and relationship management activities.
- Collaborate with Capital Markets Directors and team members to identify opportunities that support portfolio growth, diversification, and profitability objectives.
What You Bring to the Team

This role requires a combination of credit analysis, commercial lending, portfolio management, and relationship management experience, including:
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Agribusiness, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Seven (7) to ten (10) years of experience in commercial credit, lending, portfolio management, banking, agricultural finance, or a related financial services role.
- Strong understanding of commercial lending, credit analysis, financial statement analysis, and portfolio management principles.
- Experience reviewing and interpreting financial statements, loan agreements, appraisals, tax returns, and related credit documentation.
- Ability to analyze complex transactions and identify key business, credit, and structural risks.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines simultaneously.
- Demonstrated ability to exercise sound business judgment and make recommendations based on data and analysis.
- Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to present findings and recommendations effectively to stakeholders, management, and business partners.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively across cross-functional teams.
- Commitment to providing exceptional customer service and maintaining strong professional relationships.
Preferred
- Experience within the Farm Credit System.
- Advanced degree in Finance, Agribusiness, Business Administration, Economics, or a related field.
- Experience with syndicated lending, loan participations, capital markets activities, or structured finance transactions.
- Experience working with agribusiness, commercial agriculture, or rural infrastructure borrowers.
- Experience supporting relationship management activities with lending institutions and financial partners.
- Knowledge of commercial loan documentation, covenant monitoring, and portfolio risk management practices.
