Specialist, Education & Advocacy Programs

Job Description:
Summary: The Specialist, Education & Advocacy Programs, is a new position in the Education and Advocacy Department, and will support strategic initiatives and collaboration across our five program areas: community, research & sanctuary animal welfare, advocacy, tour experience, and education. Strategic initiatives include supporting our national remote volunteering programing and “community changemaker pilots,” working with regional food system leaders to shift resources away from factory farming to support equitable, sustainable, plant-based food systems. The role will also feature significant collaboration with Communications and Marketing, supporting grassroots activation of our 2M+ followers, and Development, ensuring we have the resources needed to change hearts, minds, and systems.
Responsibilities:
- Support “community changemaker” pilot projects by scaling existing work, identifying opportunities to replicate success, and disseminating knowledge with civic sector and academic leaders, as well as a general audience.
- Coordinate national remote volunteer “Community Action Network,” facilitating departmental collaboration and responding to volunteer inquiries.
- Develop “Community Science Program” content with Research and Sanctuary Animal Welfare, creating a new funnel to attract and retain remote volunteers.
- Lead interdepartmental collaboration with Communications, Marketing, and Development, ensuring content meets intended audiences where they are and reflects current program priorities.
- Facilitate collaboration among program teams and on-site staff, facilitating on-site and volunteer-led events designed to educate, engage volunteers, and strengthen Farm Sanctuary’s community.
- Coordinate restricted funding commitments to ensure responsible draw downs of funds and to maintain high team-wide performance standards.
- Support data collection and storytelling to assess impact and refine program strategy.
- Assist in creating program guides, onboarding materials, or knowledge sharing resources for volunteers or team members
- Collaborate with the Senior Director of Education and Advocacy to ensure department-wide workflow and optimize efficiency.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 3-5 years’ relevant experience in advocacy and education related to sustainability, animal welfare, or food systems change.
- Advanced degree (Master’s, JD, MPP, or MPH) in policy, public health, environmental sciences, or adjacent field or equivalent relevant professional experience.
- Effective communication skills, written and verbal, with demonstrated ability to coordinate competing interests and priorities.
- Demonstrated administrative skills, attention to detail, with the proven ability to improve workflow and team-wide performance.
- Alignment with Farm Sanctuary’s values of compassion, understanding, integrity, transformation, and freedom.
- Familiarity, commitment to, and experience with the practice of equity and social justice, and the principles embedded in Farm Sanctuary’s mission

Essential Physical Requirements:
- Sedentary to light work. Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally with prolonged periods of sitting in a stationary position. Must be able to perform repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers.
- Must be able to communicate with others to exchange information by means of the spoken word via telephone, video conferencing and other forms of electronic communication utilizing computers and smartphones.
- Worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal. Must be able to perceive the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction.
- Position is subject to environmental conditions. Must be able to perform activities inside and outside when onsite with remaining work performed in a remote home office.
Job Specifications:

- Pay: $55,000 - $60,000
- Travel: As needed, 2-3 times per year to onsite locations (Los Angeles, Acton Locations, and Watkins Glen Sanctuary for events-related support
