Senior Full-Stack Engineer (Backend Focus)

Hybrid - New York

Company Description

Farther is a rapidly growing RIA that combines expert advisors with cutting-edge technology - delivering a comprehensive, tailored wealth management experience.

Farther’s founders are leaders and innovators from the private wealth industry who possess a unique blend of traditional wealth management, fintech, and technology production expertise. We’re backed by top-tier venture capital firms, fintech investors, and industry leaders.

Joining Farther means joining a collaborative team of entrepreneurs who are passionate about helping their clients and our teammates achieve more. If you’re the type who breaks through walls to get things done the right way, we want to build the future of wealth management with you.

The Role

As a Senior Full-stack Engineer at Farther, you'll design and build the backend services and APIs that power our wealth management platform. Working with TypeScript, Bun, and CockroachDB, you'll create scalable, reliable systems that handle everything from financial transactions to portfolio management.

You'll join our engineering team working on core product features and roadmap delivery, with a focus on backend systems while remaining capable across the full stack. We're hiring as part of an exciting initiative: we're creating a Forward Deployed Engineering team where our top engineers rotate to work directly with advisors on urgent challenges. As senior engineers rotate onto that team, you'll help maintain momentum on critical backend work. Once you've ramped up (typically 3-6 months), you may have the opportunity to rotate onto the Forward Deployed team yourself.

Your Impact

  • Design and implement backend services that support our entire product ecosystem
  • Build scalable API layers that serve client-facing applications and internal tools
  • Create efficient data models and database schemas for complex financial workflows
  • Develop shared libraries and utilities that standardize operations across the platform
  • Work with distributed systems and handle high-reliability requirements for financial services
  • Collaborate with frontend engineers to design APIs that enable efficient development
  • Mentor other engineers through code reviews and technical discussions
  • Take ownership of significant features from technical design through deployment
  • Contribute to architectural decisions and backend development standards
  • Contribute to the development of our cutting-edge, agentic-based, software manufacturing pipeline.
  • Future opportunity: Rotate onto the Forward Deployed team to work directly with advisors and rapidly build complete solutions

The Ideal Match

  • 6+ years of backend development experience with strong full-stack capabilities
  • Expertise in TypeScript/JavaScript and modern backend frameworks
  • Experience with distributed systems and database design (CockroachDB or similar)
  • Solid understanding of RESTful APIs and asynchronous processing patterns
  • Proficiency with cloud infrastructure (AWS) and containerization
  • Can competently handle frontend work when needed to deliver complete solutions
  • Product-focused mindset - excited about building systems that enable great user experiences
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proven ability to work autonomously and drive projects from idea to completion
  • Track record of delivering high-quality, scalable backend systems
  • Experience mentoring other engineers and driving technical best practices
  • Collaborative mindset and ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams
  • Excited about contributing to a fast-growing fintech company

Bonus Points

  • Experience with financial services or trading systems
  • Knowledge of financial regulatory requirements and compliance
  • Previous consulting or customer-facing technical roles
  • Experience with event-driven architectures
  • Background in building high-availability systems
  • Experience with real-time data processing
  • Familiarity with functional programming concepts
  • Background in rapid prototyping or startup environments
  • Interest in eventually rotating onto the Forward Deployed team

If you believe you belong to any of the categories of protected veterans listed below, please indicate by making the appropriate selection. As a government contractor subject to the Vietnam Era Veterans Readjustment Assistance Act (VEVRAA), we request this information in order to measure the effectiveness of the outreach and positive recruitment efforts we undertake pursuant to VEVRAA. Classification of protected categories is as follows:

Form CC-305
OMB Control Number 1250-0005
Expires 04/30/2026

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
