Motor Test Intern
Figure is an AI Robotics company developing a general purpose humanoid. Our Humanoid is designed for corporate tasks targeting labor shortages and jobs that are undesirable or unsafe. We are based in San Jose, CA and require 5 days/week in-office collaboration.
We are seeking a highly motivated and technically skilled Motor Test Intern for Fall 2025 to support our electric motor design and testing efforts. This internship is intended for students graduating in Summer 2026 or within the following year. In this role, you will engage in hands-on testing, data analysis, and performance evaluation of electric motors. You will collaborate with our engineering team to refine motor models and test protocols and contribute to the development of cutting-edge motor technologies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct motor performance tests and assist in developing in-house motor test flows.
- Automate data collection, processing, and analysis using Python and MATLAB.
- Assist in analyzing and refining motor FEA models with test data.
- Support the development of motor control strategies and provide insights into design improvements.
- Prepare and present detailed reports on motor performance results.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to optimize motor design and performance.
Requirements:
- Strong understanding of fundamental physics.
- Basic understanding of electric motor design and controls.
- Proficiency in Python and MATLAB for automation and data processing.
- Graduating in 2025 or 2026 with a BS, MS or PhD in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or a related field
- Ability to commit to a minimum of 10 weeks, with a preference for 1-2 terms.
Bonus Qualifications:
- Experience with Ansys Maxwell, Catia v5/v6, or other solid modeling tools.
- Strong fundamentals in motor electromagnetics and design of rotating components.
- Working towards an advanced degree (MS or PhD) in a related field.
The US hourly range for this internship position is between $35 - $50/hr.
The pay offered for this position may vary based on several individual factors, including job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package may also include additional components/benefits depending on the specific role. This information will be shared if an employment offer is extended.
