As part of our shared services team supporting Filson, Shinola, and Bedrock Manufacturing Co., the Payroll Manager position plays a critical part in ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant payroll operations across multiple brands and employee populations. ABOUT THE ROLE
The Payroll Manager is responsible for overseeing end-to-end payroll operations across Filson, Shinola, and Bedrock Manufacturing Co., ensuring accurate, compliant, and timely payroll processing for multi-state, hourly and salaried employee populations.
This role serves as the subject matter expert for payroll practices, tax compliance, audits, and system optimization, while partnering closely with HR, Finance, Legal, and external payroll vendors. The Payroll Manager will lead payroll administration, improve processes, and support the growth and scalability of payroll operations across the organization.
We are seeking a detail-oriented, solutions-driven payroll leader with strong technical expertise, a high degree of integrity, and a passion for operational excellence. The ideal candidate thrives in a multi-entity environment, proactively identifies opportunities for improvement, and balances accuracy with a positive employee experience.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Oversee end-to-end payroll operations, ensuring adherence to all applicable federal, state and local payroll, wage and hour laws
- Manage payroll inquiries and issues, ensuring timely, compliant resolutions
- Review and approve payroll related journal entries and reconciliations
- Audit, reconcile and fund 401(k) contributions associated with each payroll. Research and resolve discrepancies real time
- Fulfill external audit requests and support business partners through ad-hoc reporting and regular reconciliations
- Serve as the primary point of contact for payroll vendors and third-party providers
- Oversee payroll audits, reconciliations, tax filings, and year-end processes (including W-2s and related reporting)
- Partner closely with HR on employee lifecycle events including onboarding, offboarding, benefits deductions, leave administration, and compensation changes
- Develop, document, and maintain payroll SOPs and internal controls
- Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and scalability
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, or a related field preferred
- 8+ years of progressive payroll experience, including 3+ years in a management role
- Proven success leading payroll functions in multi payroll cycle companies
- Hands on experience with ADP
- Prior experience implementing payroll/HRIS systems a plus
- Prior experience supporting multiple brands or legal entities strongly preferred
- Advanced Excel skills (e.g. Pivot tables, VLOOKUP) and strong attention to detail
- Proven ability to manage confidential information with discretion and integrity
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, evolving environment and manage competing priorities

Salary range:
$90,000 - $110,000 USD
