We are looking for an experienced controller who has worked with startups and is comfortable rolling up their sleeves to get processes in place and financials in order. This challenging position involves overseeing the accounting department for a subset of our clients, handling client engagements with C-level executives, offering technical support, reviewing monthly closes, and closing the books for a portion of our client base when needed.

The ideal candidate has management experience and a strong understanding of monthly accounting closes as well as the implementation of department-wide accounting procedures.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Defining and implementing rigorous accounting processes and controls
  • Performing all general ledger functions: revenue recognition; accounting for prepaid expenses, short- and long-term investments, and accrued liabilities; inventory tracking; depreciation and amortization; equity, interest income, and expense
  • Controller review of monthly client closes
  • Managing all accounting functions including: A/R, A/P, cash flow management and financial reporting
  • Developing revenue recognition, accounting policies, and internal controls consistent with GAAP
  • Ensuring accurate and timely development of financial statements, offering insights on technical accounting areas including: footnotes, disclosures, and audit responses as needed
  • Identifying inefficiencies and cost-saving opportunities
  • Ensuring accurate and timely tax filings and payments to federal, state, and local tax agencies

Qualifications:

  • Current CPA designation or equivalent experience preferred
  • In-depth knowledge of GAAP, including preparation of audited GAAP financial statements
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects while simultaneously meeting company goals and deadlines
  • Good written and verbal communication skills are a must, with an emphasis on clear and sensitive responses to client inquiries and escalations
  • Entrepreneurial spirit with a team-first attitude and problem-solving nature
  • Direct experience working with accounting systems (any one or more of: Quickbooks, Xero, NetSuite, Sage Intacct) and payroll processing systems (any one or more of: Gusto, ADP, Paychex, QBO, Intuit, ZenPayroll)
  • Proficiency in Google Docs, Google Spreadsheets, and Microsoft Excel
  • Strong desire to tackle new challenges and projects with enthusiasm

  • Salary: $130,000-$160,000 (adjusted accordingly depending on location)
