Senior Character Artist - Art - Studio

Role Overview:

We are seeking a highly motivated Senior Character Artist to join our studio, working on a dark, story-driven 'Narrative Adventure' with genre defining goals. Collaborating with the Character Art team, Art Director and other members of the development team, the Senior Character Artist will build photorealistic, AAA quality characters and creatures.

Our candidate will demonstrate superb Artistic ability and technical understanding of real-time character modelling and texturing within a game development team.

Ideally we would love individuals to be based in the studio for 1-3 days per week, but we may consider those who have a preference for remote working in the UK.

What you'll be doing:

  • Produce AAA-quality Character models that meet the design and direction, following existing pipelines.
  • Work closely with the Character Art and Concept teams and be receptive to feedback from the Art Director and Lead Character Artist.
  • Collaborate with Technical Art and Technical Animation to ensure all assets are efficient and fit for purpose.

What we are looking for:

  • Experienced Character Artist in games development.
  • A portfolio that demonstrates a high degree of Artistic ability, particularly experience of making clothes, hair and accessories.
  • Able to demonstrate a detailed understanding of human anatomy and proportion.
  • Expertise in sculpting, 3d modelling in Maya/Max and PBR texturing of Realtime characters in Substance Painter.
  • An enthusiastic and collaborative nature, self-motivated, positive and open to feedback.
  • The capacity to address both creative and technical problems.
  • Proficient with industry-standard packages including but not limited to Maya, Substance Painter, Zbrush, and Marvelous Designer.
  • Solid understanding of character topology, and the ability to make well-optimized and animation-friendly meshes.
  • Ability to work autonomously and to schedule, maintain good timekeeping and self-organise.
  • A good communicator, able to understand technical instruction and share knowledge with the team.

Desirable skills:

  • Experience with Unreal engine.
  • Knowledge of AAA hair authoring workflows.
  • Shader knowledge is also a plus.
