ROLE SUMMARY 

The Senior Field Service Technician (Senior FST) is a hands-on role responsible for ensuring the efficient deployment, operations, maintenance, and repair of our HyperCube systems. The Senior FST will lead by example, manage complex tasks, support other FSTs, and help maintain smooth site operations by providing high quality technical support and troubleshooting. This role requires adhering to safety and quality standards and ensuring effective coordination of a wide range of tasks, from maintenance and repair to operational leadership.  

 

Key RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead and perform inspections, maintenance, installations, and repairs of mechanical, electrical, computing, and ancillary systems related to our data centre deployments.  
  • Ensure optimal functionality and longevity of equipment by implementing best maintenance practices.  
  • Provide technical guidance and support to other FSTs and data centre teams, ensuring effective task completion and continuous improvement.  
  • Manage and delegate complex maintenance and repair tasks, ensuring all issues are addressed promptly and effectively.  
  • Diagnose and resolve complex technical issues, identifying root causes and implementing effective solutions.  
  • Serve as the escalation point for challenging issues encountered by the field service team, offering expert support and problem-solving skills.  
  • Lead the team in troubleshooting complex issues, guiding them through the diagnostic process to enhance their skills and knowledge.  
  • Oversee deployment activities, including computer modifications, filling/draining HyperCube fluid, and network cable installation.  
  • Manage the installation and removal of load banks as part of the commissioning process.  
  • Coordinate with commissioning and site teams, ensuring timely and accurate completion of deployment tasks.  
  • Lead and manage complex deployments, providing clear instructions and guidance to team members to ensure smooth execution.  
  • Manage initial on-site fault responses (e.g. resetting circuit breakers, fuses, pumps, strainers, and alarms).  
  • Remove faulty computers from tanks, perform repairs if within expertise, or direct them to workshops.  
  • Conduct basic fault-finding on compute and network systems in collaboration with the Subject Matter Experts (SMEs).  
  • Conduct Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) inspections, maintain first aid kits and eyewash stations, and ensure PPE availability.  

 

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE 

  • Diploma or equivalent, technical certification or trade certification (electrical license required for electrical staff).  
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in a similar role, including hands-on experience with equipment maintenance and repair.  
  • Proven ability to lead by example, inspire FST team members, and ensure adherence to best practices and safety standards.  
  • Experience in managing field service activities, particularly in complex and challenging situations.  
  • Ability to mentor FSTs and junior technicians, guiding them through complex tasks.  
  • Expertise in troubleshooting, equipment maintenance, and repair, particularly in handling complex technical tasks.  
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with an ability to diagnose and resolve technical issues effectively.  
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with demonstrated ability to provide clear instructions and convey technical information effectively.  
  • Willingness to provide on-site support, and work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and as part of a 24/7 rotating shift.
