Tax Accountant
SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES
The REIT Tax Accountant is responsible for managing and supporting tax compliance and planning functions for a Real Estate Investment Trust (REIT). This role ensures the REIT maintains its tax-efficient structure while complying with IRS regulations and filing requirements. The position involves working closely with internal teams and external advisors to prepare/review tax returns, support audits, and advise on REIT-specific tax implications of transactions.
Key Responsibilities
- Tracking of 1031 LKE – Document activities, flow of funds, exchange documents, basis allocation, maintain 1031 tracker, and in put LKE in SAGE.
- Review/Prepare quarterly tax depreciation and FA roll forward provided by offshore resource and be able to prove out the deferred balance.
- Collaborate with internal accounting teams to gather necessary financial data for tax filings.
- Prepare and review federal, state, and local tax filings for REITs and affiliated entities, including Forms 1120-REIT and 1065.
- Tax Account reconciliation
- Prepare and process estimated tax payments, extension payments, vendor invoices, etc.
- Assist with tax provision and ASC 740 reporting as it relates to REIT structures.
- Respond to federal and state tax notices and support tax audits.
- Assist in documenting and maintaining quarterly and annual REIT testing.

WORKING CONDITIONS
- Primarily working indoors, office environment.
- May sit for several hours at a time.
- Prolonged exposure to computer screens.
- Repetitive use of hands to operate computers, printers, and copiers.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting from an accredited university
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office (Must)
- Minimum of 2-years in tax in REIT, PE, or public accounting
- Proficiency in Alteryx (preferred)
- Proficiency in Sage (preferred)
- Ability to learn complex tax calculations.
- Ability to learn new software/technology.
- Must be a self-starter and ability to think outside the box.
PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA), preferred.
- Experience working in a fast paced, high growth company.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE
- Accounting — Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and practices, financial markets, and the analysis and reporting of financial data.
