About the Role

This position will direct the accounting operations functions of the Company.  It will oversee the monthly close process including approving JEs and review of balance sheet account reconciliations and account substantiations, and related month-end reporting to management, board of directors and regulatory agencies.  The Assistant Controller will oversee accounting and reporting for the trust and investment management revenue cycle, mortgage loans held for sale and related derivative assets and liabilities, cash, accruals, deposits and loans held in portfolio.  The Assistant Controller will also oversee the payroll and benefits and Accounts Payable.

The Assistant Controller is the primary accounting liaison for internal and external auditors as it relates to internal controls over financial reporting (ICFR) and serves as the subject matter expert for all company ICFR matters including User Access Reviews, Quarterly Sub Certifications, Risk and Control Matrix and Entity Level Controls. This role will also be responsible for overseeing and driving key projects for the accounting operations and financial reporting teams to improve accounting systems and processes for increased efficiency as identified in the quarterly strategic planning.

 

What You’ll Do

  • Manage month end close reporting package, timeline and overall process with other accounting managers.
  • Oversight of the revenue cycle for Trust and Investment Management, including: initial set-up of clients in systems, revenue calculations, accurate and timely billing and collections, tracking of receivables by client, analytical reviews, accurate and timely reporting for SEC and call reports.
  • Full ownership of the accounting for mortgage loans held for sale and related derivative assets and liabilities, including assessing new transactions for proper accounting treatment, reporting and disclosure.
  • Involvement in and oversight of general ledger entry preparation and review, account reconciliation reviews, and month-end close process including reporting results to Management.  This includes managing the development of more robust monthly close package to assist in more efficient and relevant reporting.
  • Assist in review of certain financial reporting schedules for Call/Regulatory Reporting and SEC filings from Accounting Operations area.
  • Oversee the payroll process including benefits billing and compensation accruals and creating strong procedures and job aids to assist associates in properly tracking and recording time. 
  • Drive change by leading Accounting projects for improved efficiency through process and system enhancements as well represent accounting in companywide projects and system implementations
  • Lead and develop a team of 6-7 employees, including 2-3 direct reports, ensuring the highest standard of performance, teamwork, development and service.

 

What You Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related business field required.
  • 10–15 years of accounting or finance experience within financial services.
  • 4+ years of people leadership experience.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting operations, internal controls, and financial reporting.
  • Experience with public company accounting, trust accounting, mortgage or loan accounting, and SOX environments preferred.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and strong analytical abilities.
  • Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • CPA preferred.
