
Senior Retirement Counselor

The Senior Retirement Counselor serves as the long-term relationship manager for Fisher/SMB’s largest and most complex retirement plan sponsor clients. This role is responsible for managing the full client lifecycle, from onboarding to ongoing fiduciary and plan governance support. Senior Counselors serve as strategic partners to plan sponsors, providing advanced retirement plan consultation, coordinating with Recordkeepers/TPAs, supporting participant education, and driving client satisfaction and retention. They also mentor junior Retirement Counselors and contribute to internal initiatives such as product testing and process improvements.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Client Relationship & Strategic Oversight
- Serve as the dedicated point of contact for high-value ($7M+ AUM) and complex retirement plan clients.
- Manage client satisfaction and retention throughout the relationship lifecycle.
- Support late-stage sales efforts and ensure smooth post-contract onboarding.
- Recommend ongoing plan design improvements based on client needs and regulatory changes.
Fiduciary & Plan Governance Support
- Assist plan sponsors in identifying investment objectives and generating an Investment Policy Statement (IPS); conduct annual IPS reviews.
- Communicate Fisher/SMB's investment strategy, market outlook, and fund lineup changes to plan sponsors.
- Deliver fiduciary services, fee benchmarking, and plan governance recommendations.
- Oversee plan amendments, investment lineup updates, and compliance-related processes.
Recordkeeper/TPA Management
- Recommend appropriate Recordkeepers/TPAs and manage vendor relationships.
- Coordinate installation, asset transfers, and ensure ongoing plan servicing is aligned with client expectations.
Participant Engagement
- Design and implement participant education and enrollment campaigns to improve engagement and outcomes.
- Travel as needed (~40%) to support in-person client and participant meetings.
Internal Leadership & Collaboration
- Mentor Associate and Core Retirement Counselors.
- Serve as a subject matter expert for cross-functional projects and testing new services/products.
- Collaborate with internal Fisher/SMB teams and external partners to ensure seamless plan execution.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required.
- Minimum of 2 years in asset management or client services; experience with complex retirement plans preferred.
- Strong understanding of securities, financial markets, and retirement plan design
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a strong client service orientation.
- Proven ability to manage sensitive and high-profile client relationships.
- High attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Advanced problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
Licensing Requirements
- Must hold, or be able to obtain, the necessary securities licenses or designations to be registered as an Investment Adviser Representative (e.g., Series 65 or equivalent).
