
Team Lead of Platform Development

JOB SUMMARY:
The Platform Development Team Lead is responsible for leading and managing a high‑performing team of developers who design, build, and maintain core platforms and business‑critical applications for Fisher\SMB. This role balances hands‑on technical leadership with people and delivery management, ensuring that development work aligns with business objectives, follows best practices, and is delivered on time and with high quality.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead, coach, and mentor a team of developers, providing clear expectations, regular feedback, and development support.
- Own the planning and execution of the team’s development roadmap, ensuring alignment with business priorities and platform strategy.
- Define and track objectives, key results, and deliverables for the team and individual developers, ensuring commitments are met and risks are proactively managed.
- Facilitate daily standups or delivery check-ins with a strong focus on predictable and transparent delivery.
- Uphold and evolve coding standards, design patterns, and best practices across backend, frontend, and integration layers.
- Ensure robust testing strategies (unit, integration, end‑to‑end) and quality gates are in place and followed.
- Monitor progress of in‑flight work, proactively remove blockers, and adjust priorities to meet deadlines and quality targets.
- Communicate status, risks, and technical tradeoffs to technology leadership in a clear and timely manner.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Set clear performance expectations and objectives for team members, conduct regular one‑on‑ones, and lead formal performance reviews for employees.
- Identify skills gaps on the team and partner with management to address them via training, mentoring, or hiring.
- Evaluate and recommend tools, frameworks, and practices that improve developer productivity and platform reliability.
- Ensure accurate documentation of architecture, designs, APIs, and operational procedures for platform components.
- Foster a collaborative, learning‑oriented culture for developer employees to share knowledge, pair program, and learn from each other.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- 8+ years of experience in software development, including significant experience as a Full Stack Developer.
- 2+ years of experience in a formal or informal technical leadership or people‑management role.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related experience.
- Strong technical background across multiple areas such as back‑end services (e.g., .NET, Node.js), web UI frameworks (e.g., Angular/React), APIs/microservices, and databases.
- Demonstrated experience leading teams delivering complex, multi‑system solutions using project methodologies (Scrum or Waterfall).
- Proven ability to set priorities, manage multiple streams of work, and hold teams accountable to commitments and quality standards.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to translate technical topics for non‑technical audiences.
- Strong problem‑solving and decision‑making skills, with a focus on outcomes, ownership, and continuous improvement.
