Position Summary

Pioneering Medicines is seeking a scientifically rigorous, innovative, and collaborative Scientist to join our In Vitro Pharmacology team. This role is ideal for a PhD-trained scientist with industry experience who thrives at the intersection of in vitro pharmacology and translational science.

The successful candidate will lead in vitro pharmacology efforts for one or more discovery programs, designing and executing critical experiments that inform candidate selection and go/no-go decisions. You will contribute to the evaluation of novel therapeutic modalities across multiple disease areas, including immunology, oncology, cardiovascular, and metabolic diseases.

This role requires deep expertise in cell-based assay development, mechanistic biology, and translational thinking, along with the ability to operate in a fast-paced, highly collaborative environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide scientific leadership for in vitro biology and pharmacology activities on designated discovery programs
  • Design, develop, and optimize robust, physiologically relevant cell-based assays to evaluate potency, efficacy, mechanism of action, and differentiation of candidate therapeutics
  • Develop and execute assays using cell lines, human primary cells, peripheral blood cells, and complex ex vivo systems to support translational strategy
  • Drive experimental strategy to rapidly generate decision-enabling data and advance programs toward development milestones
  • Collaborate closely with in vivo, translational, platform, and CMC teams to ensure alignment from early discovery through clinical development
  • Partner with external collaborators and CROs to design, oversee, and interpret in vitro studies
  • Contribute to scientific strategy discussions and present findings to cross-functional stakeholders and leadership
  • Mentor and guide junior scientists as appropriate

Basic Qualifications

  • PhD in Biology, Pharmacology, Immunology, or a related discipline
  • 2+ years of relevant industry experience in drug discovery (biotech or pharma preferred)
  • Demonstrated expertise in developing and implementing complex in vitro cell-based assays
  • Strong hands-on experience with mammalian cell culture, including primary human cells
  • Working knowledge of in vitro pharmacology principles (compound handling, dose-response analysis, potency/efficacy characterization)
  • Proficiency in data analysis tools
  • Strong experimental design, data interpretation, and scientific communication skills
  • Experience maintaining rigorous documentation in ELN systems

Preferred Qualifications

  • Industry experience advancing programs from target validation through IND-enabling studies
  • Research background in immunology, immuno-oncology, oncology, cardiovascular or metabolic disease
  • Familiarity with emerging therapeutic modalities (e.g., small molecules, peptides, biologics etc)
  • Track record of impactful scientific contributions, including publications, presentations, or advancement of therapeutic candidates
  • Experience managing collaborations with academic partners, biotech/pharma collaborators, or CROs

Why Join Pioneering Medicines?

  • Opportunity to work at the forefront of platform-enabled therapeutic innovation
  • Exposure to first-in-class and potentially paradigm-shifting treatment modalities
  • Highly collaborative, entrepreneurial environment within the Flagship ecosystem
  • Ability to shape programs from early discovery to clinical translation
  • Culture that values scientific excellence, creativity, and ownership
