You're a senior cloud and security professional, excited to forge a new way to save. The purpose of this role is to produce and maintain high quality systems to achieve business objectives through contributions to the development process including system design/architecture. An engineer will work in partnership with relevant teams across the organisation to identify how technology can solve business challenges and be capable of answering “how and why” the technology is designed and delivered.

As a Senior Cloud Engineer, part of the day-to-day will involve coaching and mentoring other Engineers, helping them develop better solutions and understand system design.

What you’ll do:

Strategy – Contributes to setting the technical strategy for the squad in partnership with the Engineering Team Lead and Principal Engineer taking into consideration the impact on the wider business.

Delivery – Directly contributes to the delivery of solutions and indirectly through assisting and unblocking others in the team. Continually looks to improve software engineering processes and practices. Helps with capacity management.

Decision Making – Contributes to strategic decisions, taking tactical and operational decisions relating the technology stack looking beyond the current feature work up to 1-3 months ahead. Mostly concentrating on shorter term decisioning to facilitate the delivery of the current feature. Will also factor in costs when considering solution choices. Regulatory and compliance considerations are highlighted.

Operational Mindset – Evangelises the “you build it, you run it” mantra and always considers operational concerns as part of feature delivery and system design, including run books, monitoring, alerts and general maintenance. Non-functional requirements are designed for and, where unclear, provides support to the Product Manager so they can be shaped and understood.

Quality – Ensures contributions maintain quality standards in the form of adherence to ADRs, style policies and testing strategy through coaching and peer review. Provides input to the quality gates and standards, identifying opportunities for improvement and driving their implementation.

Risk & Incident Management – Understands, identifies and raises risks as necessary and assisting less experienced engineers with the risk process, embedding a “Think Risk” culture. Will contribute and also occasionally facilitate with incidents, including their identification, management (handling and communication) and resolution while ensuring adherence to process to maintained.

People – Acts as a role model for Flagstone culture and behaviours. Understands own performance and responsible for their own development and helps others through coaching and mentoring. Assists with interviews and is capable leading an interview. An integral part of onboarding of new joiners.
