Project Engineer

Sparks, Nevada, United States

Role Summary

Reports to: Construction Manager / Sr. Construction Manager (by assigned scope)

Experience: 0–4 years

Position Overview

The Project Engineer is an owner/operator team member responsible for maintaining the controls, records, visibility, and follow-through that keep Fleet’s data center projects organized and decision-ready. Reporting into the construction management line — to the Construction Manager or Sr. Construction Manager who leads the assigned scope — this role is the backbone of owner-side project information — tracking decisions, actions, submittals, RFIs, changes, and turnover requirements, and ensuring the right parties are held to their commitments.

This is a developing role focused on accuracy, organization, and disciplined follow-up. The Project Engineer supports the Construction Managers and works alongside the Sr Project Engineer by keeping status current, surfacing risks early, and ensuring nothing critical falls through the cracks.

Key Responsibilities

Owner-Side Controls & Documentation

  • Document Governance: Maintain organized, current, and retrievable project records aligned with Fleet standards, including drawings, specifications, contracts, and correspondence.
  • Decision & Action Tracking: Track owner decisions, open action items, design clarifications, and commitments to closure, escalating stalled items.
  • RFI & Submittal Support: Log, route, and track RFIs and submittals for completeness and required owner action before leadership review.
  • Reporting: Prepare and maintain recurring project reports and status logs that leadership can rely on.

Coordination & Follow-Through

  • Stakeholder Follow-Up: Coordinate with contractors, consultants, vendors, and internal stakeholders on routine information needs and outstanding items, driving timely responses.
  • Meeting Management: Capture meeting notes, record actions and owners, and follow up on assigned items.
  • Procurement & OFCI Visibility: Support tracking of long-lead equipment status, delivery risk, and Owner-Furnished, Contractor-Installed (OFCI) information needs for assigned scopes.
  • Turnover & Closeout Support: Track turnover requirements, commissioning readiness items, and closeout deliverables from the owner perspective.

Risk & Communication

  • Early Escalation: Identify missing information, overdue commitments, and emerging issues, and escalate them early enough for action.
  • Clear Communication: Communicate status, questions, and blockers clearly and promptly to the project team.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field, OR equivalent practical construction/project experience.
  • 0–4 years of construction, project engineering, or project controls experience; owner/operator or developer exposure preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and a disciplined approach to documentation and follow-up.
  • Familiarity with Procore (or equivalent project management systems) and Microsoft Office Suite.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience or coursework related to data center or mission-critical facilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple workstreams and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Effective communicator with a collaborative, problem-solving mindset.
  • Detail-oriented self-starter comfortable working on-site.

Growth & Progression

Entry point on Fleet’s construction ladder. Evaluated against the four capability levels across scope handled, oversight required, decision-making, risk management, stakeholder leadership, and leadership contribution. Demonstrated independence, judgment, and follow-through position a PE for progression to Sr. Project Engineer.

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
