Manager, Strategy & Operations (Compliance)
Flex is a growth-stage, NYC headquartered FinTech company that is creating the best rent payment experience. It’s hard to believe that it’s 2025 and paying rent on time is expensive, inflexible, and difficult. We’re here to change that! Flex enables our users to pay rent throughout the month on a schedule that better fits their finances and budget. Our mission is to empower as many renters as possible with flexibility over their most significant recurring expense. After deliberately keeping a stealth profile as we built up unprecedented investor support and an enthusiastic user base, we are looking for motivated individuals to help us keep our mission growing. Will you be a part of the team?
About the Role
Strategy & Operations serves as the “API” through which company strategy, ways of working, and culture are transmitted to our departments. Your responsibilities will span both departmental strategy and operations, including framework development, project planning, financial modeling, research, and analysis. This role positions you at the very heart of the business, collaborating closely with Strategy & Operations peers, as well as with company and departmental leadership. This is an exceptional opportunity for a gritty, entrepreneurial problem solver able to toggle between strategy and execution. This role will provide frequent exposure to Flex Founders and Executive Team, giving hands-on experience of what it takes to lead and operate a world-class consumer fintech.
As the Manager, Strategy & Operations (Compliance), you'll partner directly with the Chief Compliance Officer. This role blends tactical execution with strategic insight and serves as the operational backbone of the Compliance function, ensuring initiatives are executed efficiently, tracked rigorously, and aligned with regulatory and business priorities. Your key responsibility will be to ensure urgent execution of our roadmap, collaborating closely with teams in Legal, Product, Consumer Protection, Finance, and beyond. High-performing Strategy & Operations team members will have opportunities to rotate into other departments or special projects after their first year.
What You’ll Do
- Partner with the Chief Compliance Officer to set strategic priorities and translate them into operational plans across six core compliance domains: CMS, Testing & Monitoring, BSA, Product Advisory, Licensing, and Third-Party Risk Management
- Lead execution and tracking of key deliverables across compliance pillars; manage dashboards, documentation, cadences, and workflows
- Serve as project manager on cross-functional compliance initiatives involving Product, Risk, Finance, and Legal
- Conduct research, prepare materials, and analyze data to support audit readiness, board reporting, and leadership decision-making
- Identify bottlenecks and implement process improvements to increase compliance program efficiency and scalability
- Build systems and routines that ensure clear visibility, accountability, and continuous improvement across the compliance team’s work
- Provide strategic and operational support on team enablement, vendor coordination, budget planning, and knowledge management
- Communicate effectively with senior stakeholders, navigating complex problem sets with agility
- Operate at top-decile levels of speed and productivity, dealing constructively with pressure and debate
Who You Are
- 3–5 years of relevant work experience (e.g., compliance operations, legal ops, management consulting, or cross-functional program management).
- Background in fintech, banking, or other regulated industries preferred.
- Proven ability to drive progress through others in a matrixed environment without direct authority
- Strong process orientation with a sharp eye for structure, rigor, and detail
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal; comfortable presenting complex topics to senior stakeholders
- Strong data fluency; experience with reporting tools (e.g., Notion, Airtable, Tableau, Power BI) required; SQL preferred
- Comfort operating in ambiguity and a fast-changing environment; an entrepreneurial mindset
