Join our Creative design studio where you’ll play a role in our brand development and evolution, and marketing design of our organization. As the Design Director, you'll report to the head of design, lead our designers, and collaborate with marketing, product and other teams in the company. 

You'll be joining a dynamic and highly creative team that thrives on storytelling, digital innovation, brand development, and rapid ideation. Our work is experimental, idea-driven, and deeply collaborative, bringing together cross-functional talents to push the boundaries of what’s possible.

 

What you’ll do:

Bring the brand vision to life: Develop a comprehensive design playbook rooted in the founders' vision for the Flodesk brand, translating it into actionable strategies and inspiring the creative team to execute it consistently across all touchpoints 
Lead the Brand team: Manage, mentor, and grow a team of designers, fostering a culture of creativity, collaboration, and excellence. Success looks like:

  • Getting consistently excellent, timely work from team members and
  • Fostering their professional growth
  • A culture of consistent no-ego feedback
  • Identifying hiring needs
  • Onboarding top-tier talent

Drive the in-product template strategy: Work closely with the co-founder, product design, and product teams to execute on the next iteration of Flodesk’s newsletter, form, landing page, and workflow templates, elevating the user experience in the product and providing exciting visuals that perform. Designs should balance beauty with best-practice functionality (i.e. gorgeous email templates that are simple to edit and adhere to email design best practices).

Champion brand consistency: Ensure the Flodesk brand identity is consistently and beautifully represented across all customer-facing channels, from product design to marketing campaigns through team creative reviews and brand audits. Partner with the digital marketing team. Examples include:

  • Monthly social media grids
  • Website and landing pages
  • In-product templates
  • Multi-channel go-to-market campaigns

 

Success Metrics

Build a brand system that performs: Evolve our current brand to be a cohesive system that visually communicates the most exciting and innovative parts of Flodesk to the world, capturing the attention of small business owners and creators across all channels including landing pages, social media, website, and experiential. Success looks like:

  • Develop and continuously iterate on scalable design systems for paid ad assets, ensuring a balance between brand consistency and performance ad assets
  • Developing a design system for our go-to-market campaigns that maximizes efficiency on the brand design team
  • Bringing more of our in-product experience into our brand communications. Our current marketing assets are beautiful, but they don’t necessarily faithfully portray Flodesk’s offerings. 
  • Ensuring our brand appeals to a wider audience as we expand our reach beyond our core verticals
  • Leveraging data to measure the efficacy of designs (i.e. top-of-funnel performance on something like a new website, user adoption of new templates, etc)

Drive design innovation in the newsletter space: Push creative boundaries while staying aligned with the company’s values and customer needs, keeping Flodesk at the forefront of design innovation in the email marketing and newsletter space. Success looks like higher increases in adoption of the Flodesk product through design innovation.

 

What you’ll bring:

We’re seeking someone who meets the minimum requirements for the role. If you fit these criteria, we encourage you to apply—preferred qualifications are a bonus, not a necessity.

  • Proven track record as a design leader (5+ years of experience in a senior design role; 3+ years managing a team), preferably in a startup or fast-paced environment. 
  • Expertise in building and leading multidisciplinary design teams
  • Strong understanding of brand identity, UI/UX principles, and the intersection of design and business strategy.
  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to articulate and implement a creative vision.
  • A design-first mindset with a passion for innovation and pushing creative boundaries.
  • Proficiency in design tools such as Figma, Adobe Creative Suite, and other relevant tools.
  • A growth-oriented attitude, with a willingness to adapt and thrive in a fast-evolving environment
