Data Architect
What We Do:
Florence software advances cures by helping the world’s most important research sites do their best work. Our solutions are now used by over 30,000 research teams in 70 countries around the world—we’re the most widely deployed site workflow tool in the industry. By the end of the decade, we’ll double the pace at which new medicines get to market by doubling the output of trial site teams. To date, we were named a Deloitte Fast 50 business, G2 Category Leader, an Inc. & AJC best place to work, and an Inc. 5000 company five years in a row.
At Florence, we are committed to make the world a better place by accelerating research while providing an environment for our employees where they can be happy in their lives, enjoy their jobs, and grow.

This role is responsible for designing, implementing, and evolving scalable data architectures and models across enterprise systems, data platforms, and analytics environments.
The architect will define and govern data models across conceptual, logical, and physical layers, while promoting best practices in data management, processing, and architecture. This individual will also serve as a key advocate for modern data and AI-driven architecture approaches.
You Will:
- Own the end-to-end architecture, design, and evolution of the enterprise data platform and technology stack
- Design and implement scalable data architectures including data lakehouse, data mesh, and MDM frameworks
- Define and maintain enterprise data models (conceptual, logical, physical) and standards
- Establish data governance, metadata management, data quality, and stewardship practices
- Lead design of data pipelines, data integration patterns, and real-time/streaming architectures (e.g., Kafka)
- Collaborate with business and engineering teams to translate requirements into data solutions and architectures
- Oversee data lifecycle management including ingestion, transformation, storage, consumption, and retirement
- Ensure data quality, integrity, and consistency across systems and platforms
- Define and enforce standards for data modeling, data access, and data security
- Evaluate and recommend tools, platforms, and technologies aligned with business goals
- Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and guidance to data engineering and analytics teams
- Document and maintain data architecture, flows, and system integrations
AI & Advanced Data Responsibilities
- Design data architectures to support AI/ML workloads, GenAI applications, and advanced analytics
- Enable feature stores, vector databases, and embedding pipelines for AI use cases
- Collaborate with AI/ML teams to ensure scalable and reliable data pipelines for model training and inference
- Support implementation of LLM-based applications (e.g., RAG architectures) with optimized data access patterns
- Ensure responsible AI practices including data privacy, bias mitigation, and model data traceability
- Integrate structured and unstructured data sources (documents, text, images) into unified data platforms
An Ideal Candidate Has:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Systems, or related field
- 10+ years of experience in data management, data modeling, and data lifecycle
- 5+ years of experience in data architecture and enterprise data platform design
- Strong experience designing cloud-based data platforms and architectures (AWS preferred)
- Expertise in data warehousing, ETL/ELT, and distributed data processing systems
- Hands-on experience with tools such as Snowflake, AWS (S3, Redshift, Glue), Kafka, MDM platforms
- Experience with data lakehouse architectures and Medallion (bronze/silver/gold) patterns
- Strong understanding of relational and NoSQL data models
- Experience implementing data governance, metadata, and data quality frameworks
- Familiarity with AI/ML data pipelines, feature engineering, and model lifecycle support
Core Competencies
- Ability to define and execute a holistic data and AI architecture vision
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail
- Excellent communication skills with ability to translate technical concepts to business stakeholders
- Proven leadership, mentoring, and stakeholder management experience
- Self-driven, proactive, and able to thrive in a fast-paced, hybrid work environment
- Strong data literacy with ability to connect business outcomes to data and analytics strategies
We’ll Be Extra Excited If You Have:
- Experience with vector databases (e.g., Pinecone, FAISS), embeddings, and semantic search
- Exposure to LLMs, GenAI platforms, and AI application architecture patterns
- Knowledge of data privacy regulations (HIPAA, GDPR, etc.)
- Experience in leading cross-functional data initiatives and defining data strategy roadmaps
- Strong understanding of business intelligence and analytics tools (Tableau, QuickSight, etc.)
