Data Annotation Specialist

US - Remote

ABOUT FLOVISION SOLUTIONS

FloVision Solutions is a remote-first startup focused on improving the food supply chain, starting with protein processing. We design computer vision and machine learning-assisted production processes to reduce food waste, improve QA, and enhance staff skills, using proprietary hardware and software to solve customer problems.

FloVision Solutions is a U.S.-based Series A startup with a remotely distributed team across the USA, UK, and Ireland.

POSITION OVERVIEW

As a Full-Time Data Annotation Specialist at FloVision Solutions, you will play a critical role in the performance of our machine learning models. You will be the primary person responsible for producing high-quality data annotations—labeling and segmenting images, mostly of raw cuts of beef, pork, and poultry. This data directly powers our core products and impacts food waste, yield, and quality improvements for our customers.

We're looking for someone detail-oriented, adaptable, and capable of sustained focus over long periods. You should be comfortable switching gears, learning new tools, and communicating effectively with a remotely distributed team. Previous annotation experience is helpful but not required—we care more about your mindset and ability to learn.

As one of FloVision’s early hires in this role, you will have a high level of ownership and responsibility, helping shape the quality standards for annotations and how they flow into production.

LOCATION & TRAVEL

This is a full-time, remote position. Candidates based in the U.S. and Europe are welcome to apply; at least three hours of daily overlap with the U.S. workday is required.

Travel:

  • Up to 5% travel may be required, primarily for team meetups and work sessions 2–4 times per year.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Accurately annotate images for use in machine learning models (bounding boxes, classification, segmentation, etc.)
  • Review and maintain high standards of labeling consistency and accuracy
  • Use annotation tools, spreadsheets, and internal documentation systems (Excel, Notion, etc.)
  • Communicate clearly with the team about annotation progress, blockers, and inconsistencies
  • Self-manage task flow and timelines with a strong sense of ownership
  • Provide feedback to the team about improvements in annotation guidelines and tools
  • Play an active role in supporting the quality and reliability of the datasets

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • At least one year of experience in a professional workplace environment
  • Comfortable working on focused tasks for extended periods
  • Computer literate, with familiarity in Excel (or Google Sheets)
  • Able to learn and use internal platforms such as Notion and other tools
  • Willingness to annotate images of meat (e.g., raw cuts of beef, pork, and poultry)
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow annotation guidelines
  • Reliable, responsible, and able to manage deadlines independently
  • Good written communication skills in English
  • Comfortable advocating for yourself and surfacing blockers with the right level of urgency

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Advanced Excel skills
  • Previous annotation experience (image labeling, segmentation, or similar tasks)
  • Experience with data visualization or data analytics
  • Exposure to or interest in Python and basic scripting
  • Background or familiarity with meat processing (e.g., butchery, food science)
  • Experience working with databases or large datasets

INTERVIEW PROCESS OVERVIEW

Throughout the process, you'll have multiple opportunities to showcase your skills and experience, and we will aim to keep communication transparent and timely as we move through each step.

  • Stage 1: Initial Audio Interview (via Qualifi) This is an audio-based, on-demand interview where you respond to pre-recorded questions at your convenience.
