Overview
The Commercial HVAC/R Service Technician is responsible for diagnosing, servicing, repairing, and maintaining commercial and industrial HVAC and refrigeration systems. This role supports mission-critical equipment across customer sites and ensures system reliability, safety, energy efficiency, and customer satisfaction. The technician works independently or as part of a service team and serves as a trusted technical representative of the company.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and repair commercial HVAC and refrigeration systems including rooftop units [RTUs], split systems, chillers, boilers, cooling towers, heat pumps, and refrigeration equipment
  • Perform preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance, and emergency repairs
  • Troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and control system issues
  • Read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, schematics, and technical manuals
  • Service walk-in coolers/freezers, reach-in units, ice machines, and commercial refrigeration systems
  • Diagnose refrigerant leaks, compressor failures, control issues, and airflow problems
  • Handle refrigerants in compliance with EPA regulations
  • Work with building automation systems [BAS], thermostats, sensors, and control panels
  • Verify system performance using gauges, meters, and diagnostic tools
  • Identify efficiency opportunities and recommend system improvements
  • Communicate clearly with customers regarding system issues, repair options, and maintenance recommendations
  • Complete service tickets, work orders, and inspection reports accurately and timely
  • Maintain professional conduct on customer sites and represent the company positively
  • Follow OSHA, EPA, and company safety protocols at all times
  • Maintain clean and organized job sites
  • Participate in on-call rotation as required.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of commercial HVAC/R service experience
  • EPA Section 608 Certification [universal preferred]
  • Strong understanding of commercial HVAC and refrigeration systems
  • Ability to troubleshoot electrical and mechanical systems
  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record
  • Ability to lift up to 75 lbs. and work in confined spaces, rooftops, and varying weather conditions
  • Journeyman or Master HVAC license [state or local, where applicable]
  • Experience with chillers, boilers, and/or BAS controls
  • Electrical troubleshooting beyond basic component replacement
  • Factory training or OEM certifications
  • Experience with BuildOps, Housecall Pro, or Service Titan [a plus]
