Network Engineer

New York

Flow Traders is looking for an experienced Network Engineer to join a high-performance team, owning the design, deployment, and reliability of the firm’s global trading network across data centers, exchange colocation environments, and cloud. The infrastructure delivers low-latency, high-availability connectivity for trading systems and market data, with deterministic performance under any conditions.

As a senior hands-on engineer, you continuously evolve the network architecture, respond to operational queries and incidents, and drive improvements across the stack. You challenge the status quo and push beyond traditional networking by shaping observability and automation, working closely with internal teams to ensure alignment and interoperability across networks, systems, and applications.

What you will do

  • Design, build, and operate a hybrid low-latency / big-data global network infrastructure spanning major exchange venues, WAN connectivity (fiber and RF), cloud, and data center fabrics.
  • Safeguard trading continuity: proactively detect and resolve issues using deep network visibility, deliver controlled and validated changes, and enforce rigorous testing to maintain stability in a latency-sensitive, high-availability environment.
  • Drive network performance optimization: leverage packet-level visibility (captures, microbursts, queueing, packet loss) to implement targeted improvements and provide actionable insights across teams.
  • Engineer advanced network observability: integrate telemetry streams (sFlow/flow data, SNMP, API-sourced insights) into structured, queryable datasets, correlating data across sources to enable deep analytics and automation-driven operations.
  • Advance production-grade network automation: expand and mature the automation stack to reduce BAU workload and operational risk, replacing manual processes with reliable, validated workflows while leveraging modern approaches (Python, orchestration, AI/LLMs, agentic tooling).
  • Collaborate without boundaries: operate as a single unit with systems & infrastructure engineering, trading performance, trading operations, and trading desks, sharing ownership to tackle challenges and deliver end-to-end outcomes.
  • Produce high-quality technical documentation: create and maintain clear network designs, diagrams, runbooks, troubleshooting guides, and post-incident analyses that enable reliable operations and knowledge sharing.

What you need to succeed

  • 5+ years of hands-on network engineering experience in complex environments (data center, WAN, cloud), with ownership of design, deployment, and operational support.
  • Education and certifications: Bachelor’s degree in CS/IT (or equivalent experience); certifications (e.g., CCNP/CCIE) are a plus.
  • Strong foundation in routing and switching: deep understanding of protocols such as IGPs, BGP, EVPN, PIM, STP, and MLAG in high-performance, high-availability environments.
  • Experience with modern network platforms: hands-on with vendor ecosystems (e.g., Arista, Cisco) and a solid understanding of unicast and multicast forwarding behavior.
  • Proven troubleshooting and operational discipline: ability to diagnose complex issues, manage changes safely according to established procedures, and communicate effectively under pressure.
  • Solid Linux/Unix proficiency: comfortable navigating systems, understanding the networking stack, and performing low-level debugging.
  • Automation mindset and capability: experience with scripting (Python, Shell) and working with configuration/orchestration tooling), with an interest in leveraging AI/LLMs and agent-based tooling to accelerate development and operational workflows.
  • Familiarity with observability and data-driven operations: exposure to telemetry and monitoring approaches (e.g., SNMP/API, flow data, streaming telemetry), with the ability to work with structured data and an interest in applying modern analytics and AI-driven insights.
  • Vendor and provider interaction experience: comfortable working with circuit providers, colocation environments, and data center standards.

Form CC-305
OMB Control Number 1250-0005
Expires 04/30/2026

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
