Senior Financial Accountant

Flow Traders is looking for a Senior Financial Accountant to join our dynamic Finance team in the Amsterdam office. The Senior Financial Accountant plays a key role in ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of the financial records and close process. You will independently own accounting areas up to trial balance level, review work prepared by others, and run improvement initiatives end‑to‑end. The role combines hands‑on accounting responsibility with senior‑level coordination, review, and project ownership within Record‑to‑Report.

What you will do

• Act as the right hand to the Head of Business Accounting, supporting the day‑to‑day leadership of Record‑to‑Report activities
• Work closely with your direct manager on planning, prioritisation, and delivery across month‑end close and reporting cycles
• Take end‑to‑end responsibility for day‑to‑day accounting for assigned entities/areas within the general ledger
• Prepare, review, and post journal entries, including complex accruals, prepayments, estimates, and corrections
• Perform and review bank, balance sheet, and intercompany reconciliations, resolving differences independently
• Lead and coordinate assigned parts of the month‑end close and trial balance preparation
• Independently run projects within Record‑to‑Report, such as process improvements, clean‑ups, automation initiatives, and system changes
• Maintain and review fixed asset and prepaid expense registers and related reconciliations
• Prepare and review reporting packs and supporting schedules for internal management, auditors, and other stakeholders
• Act as first-line contact for audit requests, preparing audit support and responding to queries with limited supervision
• Ensure adherence to internal controls, accounting policies, and documented close procedures
• Support and review monthly payroll accounting and related reconciliations
• Coach, review, and support junior team members, acting as a quality gate and escalation point where needed

What you need to succeed

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field
• 7+ years of relevant experience in financial accounting or record‑to‑report
• Strong understanding of financial accounting principles and double‑entry bookkeeping
• Proven experience working independently up to trial balance level, including review responsibilities
• Hands‑on experience with month‑end close in a multi‑entity or complex environment
• Strong Excel skills and confidence working with large datasets
• Experience with Exact (or similar ERP systems) is a plus
• Working knowledge of SQL for data extraction, validation, or reconciliations is a plus
• Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and an ownership‑driven mindset
• Ability to manage priorities, work independently, and meet tight deadlines
• Dutch language skills are a plus; strong command of English is required
