Drone Production Engineer
About Flyby Robotics:
Flyby Robotics builds drones with massively powerful GPU processing capabilities. Our team is crafting American-made drones that serve as fully open platforms for applications in machine learning, data capture, and autonomous operations. We envision a future where drones computing trillions of operations per second can be deployed by hundreds of thousands across the Western world with transformative impact across sectors, including industry, public safety, and defense. We are backed by top Silicon Valley investors, including Neo, MaC Ventures, Ryan Hoover (Product Hunt founder), Naval Ravikant (AngelList founder), and Balaji Srinivasan, among others.
The Role:
You'll work with a team of engineers and drone pilots from Yale University, NASA JPL, NVIDIA, and U.S. Naval Air Command at our Culver City production facility. This is a cross-over role where candidates must have a strong electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or robotics background while open to becoming heavily involved in the production of drones. You’ll be working closely with the senior staff to scale drone production from zero to one. You will be responsible for production heavily before additional responsibilities in creating our first systems to streamline production, quality control, and flight testing.
What You'll Do:
- Perform final assembly of Flyby Robotics production drones.
- Solder printed circuit board assembly according to high conformity specifications.
- Perform cable assembly involving soldering and crimping processes.
- Create assembly documentation and optimize methods to improve efficiency.
- Collaborate with other team members to meet production deadlines and quality standards.
- Quality control produced units, and conduct aggressive flight tests.
- Assist in the building of test rigs and future prototypes.
Core Requirements:
- Formal training in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or robotics.
- Absent formal training, the candidate has an extensive background with projects in drones or robotics.
- Prior experience in projects or employment involving the assembly of complex electronics products such as drones, electric cars, defense equipment, or humanoid robots.
- Ability and willingness to build drones for long hours, open to working late nights and on weekends to meet production deadlines with the team.
- Experience in soldering and cable assembly, with a focus on printed circuit boards and cable construction.
- Extremely strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
- Excellent manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.
- Open to be trained to perform drone flight testing duties.
Compensation and Benefits:
- $100,000 per year annual salary.
- 0.2-0.3% equity via stock options depending on the candidate's experience.
- The first production hire by the company will work closely with the company’s CEO Jason.
- Company holiday calendar, and competitive PTO plans.
You'll be building something incredibly consequential. If you like to push to see what you can accomplish with your grit and ingenuity, consider applying for this role at Flyby Robotics.
