Software Engineering Intern

Los Angeles

About Flyby Robotics:

Flyby Robotics is building ML-capable drones to power America’s critical industries. At Flyby, we believe the drones of the future won’t just be flying cameras — they’ll be flying supercomputers. Our mission is to design and manufacture the ultimate UAVs, capable of supporting advanced sensor payloads and on-edge machine learning applications. We envision a future where drones computing trillions of operations per second can be deployed by hundreds of thousands across the Western world with transformative impact across sectors including industry, public safety, and defense. We are backed by top Silicon valley investors, including Neo, MaC Ventures, Ryan Hoover (Product Hunt founder), Naval Ravikant (AngelList founder), and Balaji Srinivasan, among others.

The Role:

We build drones with exceptional computational capabilities. Such immense hardware capabilities need to be paired with robust software infrastructure and applications for a successful product. We are looking for interns with a background in solving challenges in real-time software, automation and testing. You’ll work with a team of engineers and drone pilots from Yale University, NASA JPL, and Nvidia.

What You’ll Do:

  • Create automation applications to streamline final drone assembly testing processes.
  • Develop and validate testing scripts for hardware components such as sensors, actuators, etc.
  • Set up infrastructure to manage internal tools and general system maintenance.
  • Create and maintain documentation for tools and processes established during the length of the internship.
  • Apply best software development practices such as version control, CI/CD and automated testing.

Core Requirements:

  • Currently pursuing a BS/MS in Computer Science or a related technical field.
  • 6+ months of software programming or development experience
  • Strong proficiency in Python is required, and familiarity with C++ would be a great plus.
  • Strong fundamental knowledge of communication and networking protocols (TCP/UDP).
  • Experience with Git and Docker.
  • Able to work full-time, onsite, for 12 consecutive weeks beginning in May or June 2025.
  • (This is a paid internship role that offers a competitive salary.)
  • Must be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident.
