Flight Itinerary (About The Role)

We're looking for a Staff Backend Engineer to join our Legacy Translator team, where you'll play a crucial role in enabling seamless transitions for airlines. Our team is focused on ensuring backward compatibility with existing systems, allowing airlines to innovate at their own pace without disruption as they migrate to our Offer & Order platform. You'll be instrumental in developing services that help migrate airlines from legacy systems that use Passenger Name Records (PNRs) and tickets to modern retailers.
Our services are built in Golang, with Postgres and Redis for data storage, and we host our services on GCP. As an engineering team, we're committed to fostering an intellectually stimulating environment that supports your career growth and provides ample opportunities for significant impact. We'd love to have you on board!

What Your Journey Will Look Like (Responsibilities)

As a Staff Backend Engineer, you'll work on complex, wide-ranging issues and exercise significant judgment in selecting appropriate methods for obtaining results.
  • Lead the design and development of new product capabilities for our Legacy Translator, utilizing Golang and other cutting-edge technologies.
  • Architect and implement robust, scalable integrations between existing legacy services and our modern architecture, ensuring smooth data flow, compatibility, and long-term maintainability.
  • Apply strong architectural thinking to comprehensively analyze problems, develop strategic solutions, and proactively prevent repetitive issues across our systems.
  • Provide technical expertise, leadership, and mentorship in product design, development, and delivery, upholding the highest coding standards, requirements, and quality. You will help others understand the organization's strategic goals and how their work contributes to them.
  • Accurately estimate upcoming work, clearly communicate complex technical solutions to diverse audiences, and report progress effectively.
  • Collaborate strategically within a product-focused scrum team to deliver against a roadmap managed by a dedicated product owner, often coordinating activities of other team members.

What To Pack For This Trip (Qualifications)

  • 8+ years of professional software engineering experience (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
  • Deep expertise in Golang and at least one other language like Python, C/C++, Java, etc., with a profound understanding of Object-Oriented Programming (OOP).
  • Proven leadership skills with a track record of mentoring and guiding new team members, cultivating an engineering-excellence culture, and influencing larger engineering organizations.
  • Extensive familiarity with both SQL and NoSQL storage solutions, understanding their respective strengths, weaknesses, and optimal use cases (e.g., PostgreSQL, Redis).

Optional Carry-On (Preferred Qualifications)

  • Extensive experience with cloud platforms (GCP/AWS), security best practices, and advanced observability tools.
  • Deep familiarity with modern CI/CD pipelines and cloud-based containerized development.
  • Prior engineering experience designing, building, and running high-load, high-uptime, and mission-critical services in production environments.
  • Extensive experience with Quality Assurance (QA) methodologies and fostering a quality-first mindset within teams.
  • Significant engineering experience with data-intensive systems and data-driven products, demonstrating an ability to draw sound conclusions based on analysis and experience.
