The Opportunity  

We are looking for an accomplished and highly skilled Staff Software Engineer to play a critical role in shaping our technology and platforms in the fast-paced world of e-commerce. As a senior individual contributor, you will drive architectural excellence, set technical standards, and solve complex engineering challenges that impact the scale and success of our products. 

 

What You'll Do: 

  • Drive the execution of complex projects, set best-in-class engineering practices, and proactively resolve deep technical challenges to ensure smooth project delivery. 
  • Apply deep technical expertise to design, build, and optimize highly scalable, cloud-based distributed systems. Decompose systems into measurable unit costs and monitor operational metrics to ensure performance and efficiency. 
  • Lead by example in design and code reviews (Java), ensuring robust and maintainable architectures. Champion quality, scalability, and cost efficiency at every stage of development. 
  • Define and instrument key performance indicators, set up effective monitoring and alarms, and uphold high operational standards across platforms. 
  • Write clear, concise, and actionable technical documentation and updates for cross-functional teams across time zones. Author monthly narrative reports supported by engineering and business metrics. 
  • Serve as a technical mentor to engineers across teams, fostering knowledge sharing and professional growth. Guide teams in adopting modern technologies and engineering best practices. 
  • Influence technical priorities, help manage stakeholder expectations, and provide transparent updates on delivery status. Serve as a technical consultant to product, design, and QA counterparts. 
  • Partner with product, design, operations, and QA to ensure seamless execution and alignment of technical solutions with business goals. 
  • Exemplify and advocate for a culture of technical excellence, continuous improvement, and innovation. 

 

 Who You Are: 

  • 10-12+ years of software engineering experience, with significant contributions as a technical leader or Staff Engineer.  
  • Prior experience building and scaling SaaS products, especially in e-commerce or retail, is highly valued. 
  • Expert proficiency in Java and related open-source frameworks, Django, Flask, ReactJS, and Airflow. 
  • Proficiency in SQL and NoSQL databases and event driven systems 
  • Strong command of Git as a version control system. 
  • Deep knowledge of cloud technologies (AWS) and scalable architectures. 
  • Solid grasp of algorithms, data structures, and distributed systems design. 
  • Demonstrated ability to lead by example, mentor engineers, and influence technical direction across multiple teams without direct management authority. 
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills. Adept at articulating complex technical concepts to diverse audiences and collaborating with distributed teams. 
  • Skilled at building strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders and delivering impactful technical solutions aligned with business needs. 

This role will work for Flywheel via Omnicom Global Solutions. Omnicom Global Solutions is an integral part of Omnicom Group, a leading global marketing and corporate communications company. The Interview Process:

Every role starts the same, an introductory call with someone from our Talent Acquisition team. We will be looking for company and values-fit as well as your professional experience; there may be some technical role-specific questions during this call.
 
Every role is different after the initial call, but you can expect to meet several people from the team 1:1 and there might be further skill assessments in the form of a Take Home Assignment/Case Study Presentation or Pair Programming/Live Coding exercise depending on the role. In your initial call, we will walk you through exactly what to expect the process to be.
