
Bookkeeper
Position Summary
The Bookkeeper is responsible for delivering accurate, timely, and compliant bookkeeping services to a portfolio of clients of the accounting practice. The role supports clients by maintaining high-quality financial records and works closely with accountants to ensure efficient end-to-end financial reporting and compliance outcomes.
This role is located in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia
Primary Responsibilities
Client Bookkeeping Services
- Provide day-to-day bookkeeping services for a portfolio of clients across various industries
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records in accordance with accounting standards and client requirements
- Process accounts payable and accounts receivable, including invoicing, receipts, and payments
- Perform bank, credit card, and loan reconciliations
Payroll & Superannuation
- Process payroll for client businesses, ensuring accuracy and compliance with legislation
- Manage superannuation contributions and reporting
- Assist with payroll tax calculations and reporting (where applicable)
Compliance & Reporting
- Review, prepare and lodge Business Activity Statements (BAS) and Instalment Activity Statements (IAS)
- Ensure GST is accurately recorded and reported
- Assist with preparation of management reports and information required for accountants and year-end processes
- Maintain compliance with ATO and other regulatory requirements
Client Relationship Management
- Act as the primary client contact for bookkeeping services, managing communication, expectations, and issue resolution.
- Liaise between clients and the offshore team to clarify requirements, prioritise work, and ensure a seamless client experience.
- Liaise with clients to obtain required information and resolve discrepancies
- Build strong, professional relationships with clients through responsive and reliable service
Systems & Process Improvement
- Use cloud-based accounting software efficiently (e.g. Xero, MYOB, QuickBooks, Employment Hero)
- Identify opportunities to improve bookkeeping processes and workflows
- Maintain well-organised digital records and documentation
Team Leadership & Delivery
- Lead and coordinate a team of offshore bookkeepers to deliver accurate, timely, and consistent bookkeeping services to clients in line with firm standards and procedures.
- Provide clear instructions, training, feedback, and oversight to offshore team members to ensure capability development and service quality.
Workflow & Quality Management
- Monitor and manage workflow, deadlines, and capacity across the offshore bookkeeping team to ensure client deliverables are completed on time.
- Review work for accuracy, compliance, and completeness, addressing issues promptly and implementing corrective actions where required.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Proven experience in a bookkeeping role, ideally within an accounting or professional services environment
- Strong understanding of GST, BAS, and Australian bookkeeping requirements
- Experience with cloud-based accounting software
- High attention to detail and strong organisational skills
- Ability to manage multiple clients and deadlines
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Certificate IV in Accounting and Bookkeeping or equivalent (desirable)
- BAS Agent registration (or willingness to obtain)
- Exceptional organisational and time-management skills.
- Strong ability to coordinate workflow and deliver against deadlines
