Senior Tax Manager

Position Summary

The Senior Tax Manager is responsible for leading tax planning, compliance, and advisory services for high-net-worth individuals, families, trusts, estates, private foundations, and closely held businesses. This role partners closely with wealth advisors to develop strategic tax solutions, reviews complex tax returns, manages client engagements, and provides technical guidance on sophisticated tax matters. The Senior Tax Manager also mentors tax professionals, fosters strong client relationships, and stays current on tax law developments to deliver proactive planning and exceptional client service.

Primary Responsibilities

· Lead tax planning, compliance, and advisory services for high-net-worth individuals, families, trusts, estates, private foundations, closely held businesses, and related entities, including extensions, quarterly estimates, projections, and year-end planning;

· Review complex federal, state, and local tax returns for accuracy, technical quality, planning opportunities, and compliance with applicable filing requirements;

· Serve as a tax resource to wealth advisors by identifying tax planning opportunities that align with clients financial, estate, charitable, and investment objectives;

· Research and analyze complex tax issues, prepare clear recommendations, and communicate technical conclusions to clients, advisors, and internal stakeholders;

· Manage client engagements from planning through delivery, including workflow, deadlines, review processes, prioritization, and coordination with permanent and seasonal tax staff;

· Build and maintain trusted client relationships by providing proactive communication, high-quality service, and timely responses to client and advisor inquiries;

· Collaborate with wealth management teams to integrate strategic income tax, estate and gift tax, charitable giving, stock option, multi-state and retirement planning considerations into client recommendations.

· Supervise, mentor, train, and review the work of tax professionals, including providing feedback, technical guidance, and support during busy season;

· Assist Tax Leadership with developing internal tax education, process improvements, and practice standards that support consistent, high-quality client service;

· Monitor relevant tax law developments and assist with communicating timely planning insights to advisors and clients through newsletters, presentations, social media, and other client communications.

Qualifications

· CPA, EA, JD, or comparable advanced tax credential, with a minimum of 8+ years of relevant tax experience; public accounting, family office, or wealth management experience strongly preferred.

· Demonstrated expertise serving high-net-worth and ultra-high net-worth individuals and families, with significant experience reviewing individual, fiduciary, gift, foundation, partnership, and closely held business tax returns.

· Strong technical knowledge of federal and state income tax, fiduciary income tax, gift and estate tax concepts, charitable planning, stock compensation, and multi-state compliance matters.

· Proven ability to lead engagements, manage competing deadlines, supervise staff, and maintain ownership of client deliverables through completion.

· Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to translate complex tax concepts into clear, practical recommendations for clients and advisors.

· Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, and demonstrated ability to learn and leverage tax, planning, workflow, and document management technology.

· Exceptional attention to detail, self-initiated follow-through, sound professional judgment, and strong time management and organizational skills.

· Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a client-focused, team-oriented wealth management environment.

· Willingness and ability to work additional hours, as needed, during peak tax filing and planning seasons.

The position prefers:

· Advanced experience with high-net-worth individual, trust, estate, gift, private foundation, partnership, S corporation, and closely held business tax matters.

· Experience with estate and wealth transfer planning, charitable giving strategies, stock option planning, tax notices, and tax controversy support.

· Experience with ProSystem fx® Tax, CCH Axcess, BNA Income Tax™ Planner, tax research platforms, and workflow or document management tools.

· Big Four, large regional accounting firm, family office, or integrated wealth management firm experience.

This position is an exempt position. The annualized base pay range for this role is expected to be between $140,000 - $160,000 per year base salary compensation range. Actual base pay may vary based on factors including, but not limited to, experience, subject matter expertise, geographic location where work will be performed, and the applicant’s skill set. The base pay is just one component of the total compensation package. Other rewards may include an annual cash bonus and a comprehensive benefits package, including but not limited to medical, dental, vision, life insurance, and 401(k).
