
Commerce Writer

Forbes Vetted is seeking a Commerce Writer to join our editorial team. The role will be responsible for writing Forbes Vetted’s shopping content, which includes product guides, roundups, retailer news, tested product reviews, product/brand comparison posts, how-tos and product odes. Working in close collaboration with the site’s section editors (who cover topics including Parenting, Consumer Tech, Gear, Mattress & Sleep, Home & Kitchen, Fashion, Beauty and Travel), the commerce writer will be responsible for supporting content creation across sections, writing about products and making purchase recommendations. The ideal candidate does not need expertise in all of these subject matters, but should have deep experience writing in two or more of them. This role reports to the Forbes Vetted Deputy Editor for general commerce.
Responsibilities:
- Write several well-researched and authoritative articles per week across a number of the following content categories: Parenting, Consumer Tech, Gear, Mattress & Sleep, Home & Kitchen, Fashion, Beauty and Travel
- Combine hands-on testing with research and interviews to craft high-quality, best-in-class content that Forbes Vetted readers can confidently rely on to make purchasing decisions
- Brainstorm and pitch stories as a part of the regular ongoing content planning process
- Participate in sales event coverage, including shifts over holiday weekends that may include Memorial Day, Labor Day, Amazon Prime Day and Black Friday/Cyber Monday
- Work with the business and SEO team as needed to ensure content is fully optimized for search
- Frequently collaborate across teams, including with commerce strategy, data, audience development, partnerships and product, as well as other editors and writers on staff
- Track content performance against team and individual goals
- Participate in virtual team meetings and contributing to Forbes Vetted’s positive, friendly culture
The ideal candidate:
- Is a writer with 3+ years of expertise and experience covering products and topics in several of the categories covered by Forbes Vetted, such as Parenting, Consumer Tech, Gear, Mattress & Sleep, Home & Kitchen, Fashion, Beauty and Travel
- Understands how to source and cultivate experts and authoritative sources for inclusion in articles
- Has impeccable writing, editing and reporting skills as well as a network of PR contacts and expert sources to consult
- Has a strong understanding of SEO best practices, plus prior experience with commerce writing and affiliate/commerce content strategy
- Has hands-on product-testing and reviewing experience
- Is user-focused and understands editorial independence, but can deftly balance this with the needs of the business
- Is eager to innovate and experiment editorially to help grow the Forbes Vetted audience
- Thrives in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment and can seamlessly write clean and authoritative copy
The annual base salary range for this role is $70,000 - $75,000
Forbes has estimated the compensation range set forth above in good faith. The compensation range is what we believe we will offer, and ultimately pay, a successful candidate. In determining this range, we consider the experience, level of education (if applicable to the role), knowledge, skills, and abilities required to be had by a successful candidate as well as the budget and the company’s pay rates, generally.
