Forbes seeks an intrepid reporter and writer to cover education with a focus on the intersection of business, technology, policy and finance. In other words, covering the education business and higher education, through a Forbes lens. The candidate should be able to pursue big scoops and to thrive in a fast-paced environment, where creativity and teamwork are highly valued.

Responsibilities

  • Write thought-provoking timely well reported stories; articles should be a combination of scoops, deeply-reported investigations and contrarian/Forbesian takes on the world of education.
  • Cover the world’s best and worst players and institutions in the education space
  •  Monitor day-to-day education news
  • Be comfortable working with data, from both the government and private sources to discover new trends. 
  • Oversee annual top colleges list as well as come up with new lists on the education beat.

The ideal candidate

  • Has at least two years of experience covering business or education–and preferably, experience in both
  • Shows previous success breaking news, covering big players & writing thoughtful features and investigative pieces
  • Is proficient in analyzing financial data and statistics
  • Is well sourced
  • Bachelor’s degree

The annual base salary range for this role is $80,000 - $100,000

Forbes has estimated the compensation range set forth above in good faith.  The compensation range is what we believe we will offer, and ultimately pay, a successful candidate.  In determining this range, we consider the experience, level of education (if applicable to the role), knowledge, skills, and abilities required to be had by a successful candidate as well as the budget and the company’s pay rates, generally.
