Project Manager

Surrey, BC

About Us

Forbes Bros. Group of Companies is a leading utility infrastructure contractor helping power communities across Canada and the United States. Built on family roots, we value safety, hard work, and getting the job done right for our clients. We offer competitive compensation, comprehensive benefits, and opportunities to build your skills and grow your career.

Role Details

  • Scope: Full-cycle delivery of multiple utility construction projects or major scopes within larger programs, including distribution rebuilds, new substations, and transmission projects.
  • Travel: Regional travel to field sites and client locations as required.

The Opportunity

The Project Manager leads utility construction projects from planning and mobilization through commissioning and closeout. With accountability for safety, cost, schedule, quality, and client relationships, you will guide multidisciplinary teams and make decisions that connect field execution with project financial and contractual commitments.

This opportunity suits an experienced construction leader who is comfortable working independently and taking ownership of complex project outcomes. You will manage commercial challenges, build strong stakeholder relationships, and develop emerging leaders while overseeing work across multiple sites and scopes.

Key Elements of the Role

  • Direct all phases of assigned projects, including planning, mobilization, construction, commissioning, and closeout, ensuring delivery aligns with contract and client expectations.
  • Coordinate engineering, procurement, and construction teams across multiple scopes or sites, monitor progress against baseline schedules, and lead recovery actions when needed.
  • Own project profit and loss, earned value, forecasts, and billing milestones, and present financial performance, progress updates, and variance explanations to internal and client stakeholders.
  • Manage subcontractor performance, resolve commercial issues, and direct change management in accordance with contracts and internal controls.
  • Oversee quality plans, Inspection and Test Plans, test reports, deficiency logs, and turnover records, ensuring inspection findings and closeout requirements are addressed.
  • Lead site safety engagement, support hazard assessments and incident investigations, and ensure corrective actions, environmental requirements, and stakeholder commitments are implemented.
  • Build relationships with utility clients, Indigenous partners, regulators, subcontractors, and EPC teams, representing the company in project reviews and resolving issues through clear communication.
  • Coach Project Managers, Coordinators, and field leaders, contribute to resource forecasting and succession planning, and apply lessons learned to improve project execution.

What You’ll Bring

  • At least eight years of project management experience in utility, infrastructure, or complex construction environments.
  • Demonstrated success delivering substation builds, transmission expansions, or distribution programs involving multiple active work areas.
  • Strong understanding of commercial contracts, quality assurance and quality control frameworks, and technical specifications from a construction delivery perspective.
  • Proficiency in Primavera P6, SAP, Procore, and industry-standard cost control and scheduling platforms.
  • A diploma or degree in Construction, Engineering, or a related technical or operational field.
  • PMP, CET, or equivalent certification strongly preferred.
  • Calm, decisive leadership and strong communication skills, with proven ability to coordinate across disciplines, develop teams, and manage stakeholder relationships.
