Role Details
- Work environment: Substation construction and maintenance, including work around energized high-voltage systems.
- Physical demands: Physically demanding work, including regularly lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds.
- Employment requirements: Successful completion of a background check and drug and alcohol testing.
The Opportunity
Working under the general supervision of the Substation Foreman, the Substation Technician maintains, repairs, modifies, replaces, and installs electrical equipment and electronic systems. You will support new and existing substation work while meeting company quality standards, customer expectations, and applicable requirements.
This opportunity suits someone with substation or heavy electrical and industrial experience who enjoys varied, hands-on work. You will contribute to equipment installation, maintenance, and site construction while applying the care and safety awareness needed to work around high-voltage systems.
Key Elements of the Role
- Maintain, repair, modify, replace, and install electrical equipment and electronic systems under the direction of the Substation Foreman.
- Assist with installing transformers and transformer banks, bus structures, switchgear, overhead and underground lines, ground grids, control buildings, and related substation components.
- Support demolition, site preparation, excavation, backfilling, trenching, pole setting, cable installation, and construction cleanup.
- Work with man baskets, skid steers, shovels, compactors, backhoes, and other equipment used in substation construction.
- Read system maps to understand distribution layouts, substation capacities, load areas, circuit feeds, and system sectionalizing.
- Demonstrate Forbes Bros.’ core value of WE WORK SAFE, follow procedures for working around energized systems, and uphold company conduct, respectful workplace, and quality requirements.
What You’ll Bring
- At least two years of substation experience maintaining and repairing electrical equipment and electronic systems, or at least two years of heavy electrical or industrial experience.
- Experience using hand tools, small power tools, shop machines, and heavy equipment.
- OSHA 10 and/or OSHA 30 training.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a valid commercial driver’s license (CDL).
- Effective written and verbal communication skills and the ability to build strong working relationships.
- A strong work ethic, positive team attitude, and the ability to work safely in a physically demanding environment.
The range shown is the expected base pay range for this role. Final compensation will be determined based on role requirements, experience, qualifications, work location, applicable project/site requirements, internal equity, and any applicable collective agreement or union requirements.
This range does not include overtime, premiums, per diem / LOA, bonuses, benefits, or other forms of compensation unless specifically stated in the job posting.
Base Pay Range
$36 - $43 USD
