Field Mechanic

Stapleton, NE

Forbes Bros. Group of Companies delivers transmission, distribution, substation, and related power infrastructure projects across Canada and the United States.

Our work spans field construction, project delivery, operations, and corporate support in an environment where safety, execution, and reliability matter.

The Opportunity

Keep the vehicles and equipment behind a major transmission project working safely and reliably.

The Field Mechanic supports FB Timberline’s R-Project, initially based in Stapleton, Nebraska, independently diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a mixed fleet of trucks, trailers, heavy equipment, and specialized construction assets.

This opportunity suits an experienced mechanic who enjoys troubleshooting, takes ownership of repairs, and looks beyond the immediate fault to prevent repeat failures. Your work will help crews stay productive and keep essential equipment available throughout construction.

Applicants from other cities and surrounding states are encouraged to apply if they can travel to Nebraska for the scheduled rotation. The role provides $200 USD per day in per diem, plus company-paid initial mobilization and final demobilization.

What You’ll Do

  • Diagnose and repair: Independently troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems and complete repairs using service manuals, diagnostic tools, and sound technical judgment.

  • Perform preventive maintenance: Complete scheduled servicing and inspections in accordance with fleet standards and equipment requirements.

  • Deliver reliable repairs: Identify underlying causes of equipment failures and apply lasting solutions that reduce repeat repairs and unplanned downtime.

  • Support field operations: Complete work efficiently and help return equipment to service during busy construction periods.

  • Identify reliability concerns: Communicate recurring faults, emerging failure patterns, and equipment risks to the Lead Mechanic or Supervisor.

  • Maintain accurate records: Complete work orders, inspection records, and maintenance documentation to support equipment history, billing, and compliance.

  • Work safely: Follow maintenance and repair procedures, meet quality requirements, and maintain organized workspaces and properly cared-for tools.

What You’ll Bring

  • At least three years of progressive experience maintaining and repairing fleet vehicles, heavy equipment, or specialized construction assets.

  • Demonstrated ability to independently diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems.

  • Experience working with mixed fleets, including trucks, trailers, off-road equipment, and support assets.

  • Ability to interpret service manuals, wiring diagrams, schematics, and diagnostic results.

  • A strong understanding of safety, inspection, and documentation requirements in safety-sensitive environments.

  • A valid driver’s license and a motor vehicle record that meets FB Timberline’s Fleet Policy requirements. A commercial driver’s license (CDL) is an asset.

College training in heavy equipment mechanics or an equivalent trade qualification is strongly preferred. Experience with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS), digital work orders, and inspection tracking tools is an asset.
