Data Strategy and Governance Manager

Remote with 50% Travel/ Full - Time

The Data Strategy and Governance Manager will help clients design, implement, and mature enterprise data strategy and data governance programs that support data quality, cloud transformation, analytics, AI readiness, and long-term business value.

FormativGroup provides technology consulting and engineering services that help mid-sized enterprises modernize operations, streamline data architecture, integrate applications, and enable AI-driven workflows. This role sits within the Data & Analytics practice and will serve as both a trusted client advisor and internal delivery leader.

As a Data Strategy and Governance Manager, you will advise clients on end-to-end solutions across data strategy, data management, data architecture, data pipelines, cloud transformation, AI readiness, master data management, governance councils, data hygiene, and data quality. You will also support business development, methodology development, team leadership, and delivery execution for data governance assessments and implementations.

What You'll Work On

As Data Strategy and Governance Manager, you will:

  • Design and develop data governance technology solutions across data quality, data dictionaries, business glossaries, data standards, and data policies.
  • Design end-to-end data architecture and data flow models that support analytics, AI/ML, and application integration use cases.
  • Define organizational design, governance processes, policies, roles, responsibilities, success metrics, and operating models for client data programs.
  • Lead and collaborate with data governance teams to create business cases, resource plans, implementation roadmaps, and enterprise data system assessments.
  • Assess current-state environments, identify client pain points and requirements, and help define a practical vision and strategy for becoming a data-driven organization.
  • Build roadmaps covering technology, culture, governance, processes, skills, competencies, data quality, analytics, and data management maturity.
  • Advise clients as a trusted partner and provide thought leadership on data governance, data management, cloud transformation, AI readiness, and related best practices.
  • Work with software partners to evaluate and recommend data governance and data management solutions.
  • Play an active role in business development by identifying, approaching, attracting, and retaining new clients.
  • Manage resources, budgets, project delivery, team development, training, mentoring, and performance assessment.

What You'll Bring

You will likely be successful in this role if you have:

  • 5-10 years of experience in data governance, data strategy, and data management consulting.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Experience building roadmaps for data, data management, data governance, data strategy, data quality, and analytics.
  • Understanding of data governance and data management tools such as Informatica, Collibra, Alation, DataHub, or similar platforms.
  • Experience designing data governance operating models, including governance organizations, roles and responsibilities, and success metrics.
  • Understanding of enterprise data concepts such as master data management, enterprise data warehouses, and MDM standards.
  • Experience with one or more compliance or regulatory areas, such as BCBS 239, CCPA, GDPR, data privacy, or security standards.
  • Certification or working understanding of DAMA / DMBOK principles for data management.
  • Experience implementing solutions for monitoring and visualizing metadata for data governance.
  • Experience developing data remediation and data management processes.
  • Strong leadership skills, including team building, hiring, mentoring, and developing talent in data governance.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and PowerPoint skills, with the ability to engage stakeholders at all levels of an organization.
  • Experience designing data governance programs that support AI, advanced analytics, and AI use-case design.
  • Knowledge of modern data platforms, including cloud-native architectures, data lakes, data mesh, and governance products such as Databricks and Microsoft Purview.

How You Work

  • You are consultative, practical, and comfortable advising clients through ambiguous data strategy and governance challenges.
  • You balance strategic roadmap development with hands-on execution, delivery quality, stakeholder alignment, and measurable outcomes.
  • You communicate clearly with executive, business, technical, and delivery stakeholders and can translate complex data governance topics into actionable plans.
  • You are comfortable leading teams, managing budgets, developing methodologies, supporting sales pursuits, and building scalable client delivery approaches.

Bonus Points If You Have

  • MBA or equivalent advanced experience.
  • Experience with Collibra, DataHub, Informatica, Snowflake, Databricks, Microsoft Purview, or similar data governance and data platform technologies.
  • Experience supporting AI readiness, AI governance, advanced analytics, cloud transformation, or data mesh programs.
  • Experience developing industry-specific or outcome-specific implementation and assessment methodologies.

This is a remote role with approximately 50% travel. We are committed to pay equity and transparency. The compensation range for this position represents our good faith estimate of the range we reasonably expect to pay for this role at the time of posting. The actual compensation offered will be determined based on factors such as the candidate’s experience, skills, education, work location, and internal equity. 

In addition to base pay, employees may be eligible for discretionary bonuses, commissions, or other incentive programs, as well as a comprehensive benefits package that includes medical, dental, vision, 401(k), paid time off, etc. 

Estimated Compensation Range:

$160,000 - $180,000 USD
