Position Overview:
The Product Manager provides leadership in strategic product marketing (market views, segmentation, and multi-generational product planning). This individual is a thought leader who performs independently and has the ability to effectively interact and influence peers and the next level up in organizations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Work with suppliers and Formerra’s commercial leaders to set aggressive but targets for volume growth, new business pipeline performance, and material margin for the supplier(s) for whom he/she is responsible.
- Network high, wide, and deep at suppliers, representing and advocating for Formerra’s interests while fostering a reputation for being a collaborative problem-solver and a trusted advocate of suppliers’ best interests
- Ensure alignment between suppliers’ strategies and Formerra’s strategies, promoting strong functional relationships between the two organizations (i.e. commercial, marketing, supply chain) to drive business growth
- Track status of distribution contracts and develop contracting strategies for renewal/extension well in advance of contract expiration, focusing on negotiation of key terms that drive value expansion for Formerra (eg margin expansion, payment terms, product access, etc)
- Convince suppliers to shift direct business to Formerra, or to shift business from other distributors to Formerra, through development and articulation of compelling proposals to the supplier.
- Own working relationships with select key suppliers, with a focus on:
- Negotiating costs and logistics for products
- Providing sales volume and pipeline updates regularly
- Developing and implementing action plans to correct sales performance gaps
- Communicating and implementing product, policy, and pricing changes
- Holding suppliers to an acceptable level of quality and ease of doing business
- Leading business reviews with appropriate content and cadence
- Responding quickly and effectively to requests for quotes from commercial team
Performance objectives/metrics
- Drive Distribution sales volume growth for assigned suppliers
- Maximize Distribution margin dollars for business from assigned suppliers
- Meet supplier requirements for keeping Formerra as a distributor
- Maintain healthy and accurate sales funnel
Qualifications:
- Education Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in business or engineering preferred, but commensurate experience considered
- Experience Requirements:
- 5+ years product management, P&L, procurement or commercial experience, preferably in the plastics industry
- Good understanding of distribution business model, focus industries, customers, products, and chemistries
- Good understanding of financial concepts including sales revenue, margins, and working capital
- Strong strategic thinking and analytical skills
- Negotiation and contracting experience
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Comfort presenting in front of large audiences
- Proficient in Microsoft Suite: Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
- Ability to travel 1-3 times a month
