Position Summary
The Staff Accountant is responsible for supporting the Company's accounting and financial reporting processes through timely and accurate execution of month-end close activities, general ledger journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, accounts payable support, and tax-related accounting activities. This position reports to the Assistant Corporate Controller and works closely with the broader Finance team to ensure the integrity of financial records, compliance with company policies, and continuous improvement of accounting processes.
The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, proactive, and eager to develop professionally within a growing finance organization. Accounting experience is preferred, but candidates with the required education and strong foundational accounting knowledge will be considered.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and post general ledger journal entries to support monthly, quarterly, and annual close activities.
- Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts, including cash, recurring accruals, prepaid expenses, and other assigned accounts.
- Prepare and maintain complete account reconciliation packages, including supporting schedules, aging analyses, and documented conclusions for management review.
- Perform account analysis and support preparation of monthly close schedules.
- Maintain fixed asset records and supporting schedules, including additions, disposals, transfers, depreciation calculations, and periodic asset reconciliations.
- Provide support and backup coverage for Accounts Payable activities as needed.
- Collaborate with Purchasing, Operations, and other internal teams to resolve discrepancies impacting financial reporting.
- Assist with gathering information and preparing schedules required for tax filings and tax-related accounting entries.
- Support annual audits and other internal or external compliance-related requests.
- Ensure financial transactions are recorded accurately and in accordance with company policies and GAAP.
- Assist with preparation of monthly financial reporting packages and supporting schedules.
- Support internal control procedures, including documentation, evidence retention, and timely completion of assigned controls.
- Identify opportunities to improve close, reconciliation, AP support, and reporting processes.
- Assist with ERP system initiatives, enhancements, testing, and data validation activities, as needed.
- Support continuous improvement efforts related to accounting processes, documentation, and reporting accuracy.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance required.
- 2+ years of relevant accounting experience.
Preferred
- Experience with month-end close processes, journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, accounts payable, or tax support preferred.
Core Competencies & Skills
- Understanding of basic accounting principles and GAAP.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
- Experience with ERP systems, such as SAP or similar systems, preferred.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- High level of accuracy, attention to detail, and commitment to meeting deadlines.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment and partner with cross-functional stakeholders.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment while delivering high-quality results.
