POSITION OVERVIEW:

Under the direction of the SVP of Project Execution, manage and direct all engineering team efforts on process development, and plant design and execution. Provide technical leadership to the design teams responsible for building Fortera’s commercial plants. Lead multi-disciplinary teams on the design and construction of large commercial plants, as well as provide support to the process development and operations teams.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Director for all engineering teams under the Capital Project Division. Coach, mentor, and develop staff. Work with engineering managers on hiring, training, and performance reviews of all engineers.
  • Direct all technical aspects of capital projects. Review and approve technical scope of services for all major projects. Oversees the assignment of resources to projects. Track and manage resource loading across engineering teams.
  • Direct process development and engineering teams consisting of process, electrical, mechanical and instrumentation engineers.
  • Exercise process safety fundamentals to ensure safe design, as well as mentor engineers on the application and considerations for safe design.
  • Drive process and equipment improvements for all future Fortera commercial plants.
  • Support and lead project engineers in the execution and delivery of projects.
  • Lead standard engineering work processes and champion the best engineering practices for improved performance and safe design, both in construction and operations.
  • Initiates, assesses, reviews, provides leadership in, and approves the development of engineering standards, and other engineering documentation, such as change forms, team procedures, best practices, and deliverables lists.
  • Provides technical leadership and expertise in various disciplines; identifies and assigns external technical specialists as required.
  • Drive the training and development of all Capital Projects engineers. Works with the engineers to provide guidance and path to professional growth in the organization. Organize and coordinate technical training, and seminars.
  • Ensure drawings and designs meet compliance with all applicable safety and environmental standards, as well as corporate standards.
  • Work closely with the legal team on generation and documentation of process-related intellectual property.
  • Work with the R&D and Product teams to develop solutions to problems and improve production throughput, cost, product quality and process safety.
  • Support construction management efforts for all Fortera projects and help to create systems that can be implemented across production sites.
  • Ensure quality assurance and verification of engineering deliverables.
  • Identify and resolve issues and problems, keeping abreast of the latest developments with the Fortera processes and technology.
  • Ensure project scope clarity and compliance with change management processes.
  • Help and provide advice during procurement, construction, and commissioning activities.
  • Provide general crushing, grinding and material handling design knowledge and experience with applicable relevant codes and standards.
  • Participate in site walkdowns, project meetings, design reviews, and process hazard analysis as needed.
  • Monitor assigned activities for performance and adherence to established policies and standards.
  • Work with internal and external customers, ensuring high-quality engineering products and customer satisfaction.
  • Ensure adherence to government, organization, and customer engineering standards and procedures.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum BS in Chemical, Electrical or Mechanical engineering, higher degree preferred.
  • Candidate must have 10+ years of engineering experience in an industrial or EPC environment.
  • 5+ years’ experience in engineering management
  • Experience working on projects $50+ million TIC.
  • Technology transfer leadership experience in an industrial setting.
  • Experience leading teams in development and design of novel processes or products manufacturing at scale.
  • Experience in bulk solids handling and/or thermal processing equipment.
  • Experience with MSHA facilities.
  • Experience with supporting construction of commercial plants.
  • Strong communication, organizational, time management, interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, manage and document projects effectively.
  • Experience writing engineering policies, procedures, proposals, and reports.
  • Extensive knowledge of materials handling systems, utility systems, processing technology, and controls design in deploying and implementing new technologies in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proven ability in leading a team in a fast-moving and changing environment.
  • Skilled in examining and re-engineering unit operations, formulating policy, and developing new strategies and procedures.
  • Ability to make administrative and procedural decisions on sensitive, confidential matters.
  • Understanding of federal and state environmental laws, regulations, procedures, and standards.

COMPENSATION:

The compensation package for this role includes a compensation package commensurate with experience of $190,000 - $215,000, an annual bonus and pre-IPO incentive stock options.
