POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Laboratory Technician will support the R&D team by operating lab-scale production equipment to precipitate reactive calcium carbonate powder according to standard operating procedures (SOPs) or established experimental plans. Routine laboratory processes will include solution preparation, mineral dissolution, gas absorption, precipitation, solids dewatering, and drying of powders. Technician will also assist in material characterization using analytical techniques such as XRD, PSA, SEM, BET, pH measurement, and/or titration.
This position will be part of the Process team within the R&D department.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Operate and maintain lab-scale production reactor setups on a daily basis.
- Conduct laboratory experiments following written or verbal instructions with precision.
- Assist research staff in non-standard experimentation as needed.
- Maintain a clean and organized laboratory environment, ensuring all equipment is properly cared for.
- Collaborate with team members to identify and implement improvements for greater process efficiency.
- Adhere to all safety protocols while handling materials in the chemistry lab setting.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Familiarity with wet chemistry techniques and laboratory procedures, at least 1 year of laboratory experience cumulative.
- Ability to follow detailed instructions and standard operating procedures accurately.
- Quick learner with the capacity to pick up new skills to support daily lab activities.
- Effective communication skills and the ability to work well within a team.
- Basic understanding of chemical safety protocols and handling of hazardous materials.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in a scientific discipline
COMPENSATION:
The hourly range for this job is $22.00 - $26.00, commensurate with experience.
