Job Summary:
CJ Suppression is seeking a dedicated and experienced Fire Sprinkler Inspector to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for inspecting and ensuring the proper functioning of fire sprinkler & fire alarm systems in compliance with National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) codes and local regulations. This critical role contributes to the safety and protection of lives and property in our community.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Inspection, testing and maintenance (ITM) of fire sprinkler systems.
- Adhere to all safety protocols, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and compliance with OSHA and company safety standards.
- Perform inspections in accordance with NFPA codes and company procedures, ensuring consistency with industry best practices.
- Accurately complete inspection reports and work orders, submitting documentation promptly upon completion of tasks.
- Utilize electronic timekeeping systems to log work hours in accordance with company policy.
- Operate independently with minimal supervision while maintaining high standards of quality and accountability.
- Train and coach fire sprinkler apprentice(s).
- Attend training, safety, and education meetings for the purpose of enhancing knowledge of safety concerns and resolving related issues.
- Safely operate company vehicles for travel to job sites; maintain a valid California driver’s license and insurability in accordance with company and state requirements.
- Effectively communicate with clients, team members, and supervisors in a clear and professional manner.
- Apply practical problem-solving skills to develop and implement appropriate action plans.
- Maintain productivity and focus while working in environments with frequent interruptions or shifting priorities.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- 3–4 years of relevant Fire Sprinkler installation and ITM (Inspection, testing and maintenance) experience.
- Demonstrated knowledge of fire sprinkler inspection procedures and basic troubleshooting techniques.
- Ability to read and interpret technical diagrams and schematics relevant to fire protection systems.
- Proficiency in using mobile devices and standard computer applications.
- Ability to drive a company vehicle and travel to various job sites as part of essential duties.
- Ability to meet company driving eligibility requirements, including holding a valid driver’s license and maintaining an acceptable motor vehicle record.
- Knowledge of NFPA 13, 25, and California Fire Code.
- Demonstrated ability to understand and apply basic measurement concepts relevant to inspection tasks.
- Ability to read and understand inspection reports, product specification sheets, O&M manuals, drawings, blueprints, and fire codes.
- Working knowledge of various electrical and mechanical tools, including but not limited to saws, wrenches, cutting torches, drills, pipe threaders, lifts, ladders, and motor vehicles, with the ability to operate them safely and effectively.
- Ability to adhere to safety practices.
- Flexible and available to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed to support business operations
- Ability to prepare and maintain accurate documentation in both written and electronic formats, including timesheets, work orders, and inspection reports, in accordance with company standards.
- Demonstrate the ability to prioritize tasks and manage time efficiently to meet deadlines and project schedules.
- Flexibility to work and collaborate with others in a variety of settings and circumstances.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 5+ years of fire sprinkler installation and ITM (Inspection, testing and maintenance) experience.
- Valid Cal Fire fitter certification.
- High school diploma or equivalent is preferred but not required.
- NICET Certification in Inspection and Testing of Water-Based System or Academy Exams Certification a plus.
- Experience with the safe and proper operation of pipe threading machines is preferred.
This pay range reflects the compensation rate Fortis Fire & Safety reasonably expects to pay for this position at the time of posting. Final compensation may vary based on factors such as experience and skillset. This role is also eligible for benefits including medical, dental, vision, 401k match, pet insurance, short term/long term disability, etc...
Compensation Rate
$24 - $35 USD
This role may require extended periods of sitting or standing, movement around the office or job site, and operation of standard equipment. Physical activities can include reaching, bending, kneeling, climbing, and lifting up to 75 lbs. Field positions may involve heavy lifting, working in varying climates (including outdoor conditions), construction or low-voltage environments, and exposure to dust, noise, or confined spaces. Personal protective equipment (PPE) may be required. Some roles may require travel.
