Job Summary:
Piper Fire Protection’s Clearwater, FL branch is seeking an experienced Sprinkler Sales Representative (Construction). The Sales Representative will manage the full sales cycle, from prospecting and estimating to contract close-out, for service and small fire sprinkler projects, including repairs, tenant improvements, retrofits, and daywork.
This role ensures customer satisfaction and compliance with all applicable fire codes and standards. This position reports directly to the Branch Manager and operates in both office and field environments, requiring regular customer site visits and exposure to active construction conditions.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Sales & Business Development
- Identify, qualify, and pursue service and small project opportunities with new and existing customers.
- Develop sales strategies and customer relationships to grow recurring and daywork service revenue.
- Estimate and prepare proposals for repairs, tenant improvements, retrofits, and other small projects.
- Conduct site surveys to assess existing systems and develop appropriate solutions.
- Present proposals and value-driven solutions that meet customer needs and code requirements.
- Maintain accurate records in CRM
- Provide sales forecasts and maintain an active proposal backlog aligned with branch objectives.
- Report key performance metrics including sales volume, margin performance, and customer retention.
Project Management & Execution
- Manage opportunities from initial lead through project closeout, including scheduling, coordination, and customer communication.
- Conduct regular customer site visits and inspections, working in both office and field environments with exposure to construction conditions.
- Work with service technicians, design, and operations teams to ensure accurate scope development and quality delivery.
- Monitor project performance, timelines, and profitability.
- Maintain accountability for customer satisfaction throughout the sales and delivery process.
- Review drawings and specifications to ensure proposed work meets compliance and design standards.
- Maintain a working knowledge of NFPA 13, NFPA 25, and related codes and standards.
- Support permitting and documentation needs as required.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of sales experience in fire protection, life safety, or a closely related industry.
- Proven experience in estimating, bid preparation, and interpreting construction drawings.
- Demonstrated success in selling small project work.
- Strong technical understanding of fire sprinkler systems and service operations.
- Familiarity with NFPA codes and standards (NFPA 13, NFPA 25, etc.)
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and specifications.
- Proficiency in MS Office and CRM software.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and negotiation skills.
- Self-motivated and results-driven, with strong time management and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with internal teams.
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain customer relationships.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical thinking skills.
- Ability to meet company driving eligibility requirements, including holding a valid driver’s license and maintaining an acceptable motor vehicle record
Preferred Qualifications:
- NICET Certification in Inspection & Testing or Water-Based Systems Layout.
- Previous sprinkler design experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in business, engineering, or related discipline.
- Experience with job costing and quoting systems.
This role may require extended periods of sitting or standing, movement around the office or job site, and operation of standard equipment. Physical activities can include reaching, bending, kneeling, climbing, and lifting up to 75 lbs. Field positions may involve heavy lifting, working in varying climates (including outdoor conditions), construction or low-voltage environments, and exposure to dust, noise, or confined spaces. Personal protective equipment (PPE) may be required. Some roles may require travel.
