Job Summary:
Piper Fire Protection's Clearwater, FL branch is seeking a versatile, licensed Electrical Journeyman to lead our service department. This role is designed for a technician who excels at "the bench" but also enjoys the interpersonal side of the trade. You will be the face of the company, responsible for diagnosing complex issues, performing high-quality repairs, and identifying opportunities to improve our customers' electrical systems through professional recommendations and transparent sales.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of residential and commercial electrical systems (lighting, panels, circuits, and EV chargers).
- Ensure all work is performed in strict accordance with the National Electrical Code (NEC) and local safety regulations.
- Manage a service van, maintaining an organized inventory and ensuring the vehicle is stocked for common service calls.
- Conduct thorough walkthroughs of customer properties to identify potential hazards or outdated components.
- Translate technical needs into clear, written estimates for customers.
- Educate customers on modern upgrades (e.g., surge protection, smart home integration, or panel upgrades) without high-pressure tactics.
- Follow up on pending quotes and secure customer signatures for proposed work.
- Act as the primary point of contact for service customers, providing clear timelines and explaining technical issues in "plain English."
- Resolve customer concerns on-site with a professional, solution-oriented attitude.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Valid State Journeyman Electrician License (Required).
- Minimum of 5 years in the electrical trade, with at least 2 years specifically in a service environment.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills; ability to build rapport quickly with strangers.
- Comfortable using tablets/smartphones for dispatching, invoicing, and email.
- Willingness to participate in a rotating "on-call" schedule for emergency services.
- Ability to meet company driving eligibility requirements, including a valid driver’s license and acceptable motor vehicle record.
This role may require extended periods of sitting or standing, movement around the office or job site, and operation of standard equipment. Physical activities can include reaching, bending, kneeling, climbing, and lifting up to 75 lbs. Field positions may involve heavy lifting, working in varying climates (including outdoor conditions), construction or low-voltage environments, and exposure to dust, noise, or confined spaces. Personal protective equipment (PPE) may be required. Some roles may require travel.
