Job Summary:
Piper Fire Protection's Clearwater, FL branch is seeking a Senior Sprinkler Sales Representative to lead business development and sales growth for fire sprinkler service, renovation, retrofit, tenant improvement, and construction projects. This role is responsible for developing and executing strategic sales initiatives, cultivating key customer relationships, identifying new market opportunities, and managing complex projects from initial pursuit through successful closeout.
The Senior Sprinkler Sales Representative serves as a trusted advisor to customers, leveraging extensive industry knowledge to develop code-compliant fire protection solutions while driving profitable revenue growth. This individual partners closely with branch leadership, operations, design, and field teams to maximize customer satisfaction and business performance.
This position reports directly to the Branch Manager and operates in both office and field environments, requiring frequent customer engagement, site visits, and interaction within active construction settings.
**This role is commission eligible.**
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Strategic Sales & Business Development
- Develop and execute strategic business development plans to drive sustainable revenue growth within assigned markets and territories.
- Identify, qualify, and secure service, retrofit, tenant improvement, and construction project opportunities with new and existing customers.
- Establish and maintain relationships with key decision-makers, facility owners, general contractors, property managers, engineers, and developers.
- Drive customer retention and account growth through consultative selling and proactive account management.
- Lead the preparation of estimates, proposals, budgets, and contract negotiations for complex sprinkler projects.
- Conduct detailed site assessments and provide technical recommendations based on customer needs, system conditions, and applicable code requirements.
- Develop long-term account strategies designed to increase market penetration and recurring revenue streams.
- Present value-driven fire protection solutions while effectively differentiating company capabilities and services.
- Maintain an active sales pipeline and forecast revenue performance to support branch and regional business objectives.
- Analyze market conditions, competitor activity, and emerging opportunities to support strategic growth initiatives.
- Consistently achieve or exceed established sales, profitability, and customer retention targets.
Project Leadership & Customer Management
- Serve as the primary customer contact throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring exceptional service and responsiveness.
- Manage projects from opportunity development through closeout, including scope review, scheduling coordination, change management, and customer communication.
- Collaborate with design, operations, field service, and project management teams to ensure successful project execution and profitability.
- Provide technical guidance regarding sprinkler system design concepts, code compliance, inspections, testing, repairs, and retrofit solutions.
- Review plans, specifications, contracts, and project requirements to ensure accurate scope development and risk assessment.
- Monitor project performance, financial results, contract compliance, and customer satisfaction.
- Support dispute resolution and proactively address project challenges to minimize impact on customers and operations.
- Participate in customer meetings, industry events, networking functions, and professional organizations to expand business relationships.
- Assist branch leadership with sales strategy development, forecasting, and business planning efforts.
- Mentor and support less experienced sales personnel by sharing technical knowledge, sales best practices, and industry expertise.
- Maintain advanced knowledge of NFPA standards, local fire codes, industry regulations, and evolving fire protection technologies.
- Stay informed on market trends, code changes, and competitive developments impacting customer needs and business opportunities.
- Support permitting, compliance documentation, and AHJ coordination when required.
- Act as a subject matter expert for customers and internal stakeholders on fire sprinkler systems and related services
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Minimum 5-7 years of sales experience in the fire protection industry.
- Demonstrated success developing new business and managing high-value customer relationships.
- Proven track record of achieving or exceeding sales and profitability goals.
- Extensive experience estimating, bidding, and managing fire protection projects.
- Advanced understanding of fire sprinkler systems, inspection requirements, service operations, and construction processes.
- Strong knowledge of NFPA standards, including NFPA 13, NFPA 25, and related codes.
- Ability to review and interpret plans, specifications, construction documents, and contract language.
- Experience managing multiple projects and customer relationships simultaneously.
- Strong business acumen with the ability to evaluate project risk, pricing strategy, and profitability.
- Proficiency with CRM systems, estimating software, and Microsoft Office applications.
- Exceptional communication, presentation, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
- Strong leadership, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently while influencing cross-functional teams.
- Ability to meet company driving eligibility requirements, including holding a valid driver's license and maintaining an acceptable motor vehicle record.
Preferred Qualifications:
- NICET Certification in Water-Based Systems Layout, Inspection & Testing, or equivalent fire protection certification.
- Previous experience in sprinkler design, project management, or operations leadership.
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
- Experience managing large customer portfolios, key accounts, or strategic client relationships.
- Demonstrated experience leading complex commercial, industrial, healthcare, education, or high-rise fire protection projects.
- Experience with estimating, project management, and job costing software platforms.
This role may require extended periods of sitting or standing, movement around the office or job site, and operation of standard equipment. Physical activities can include reaching, bending, kneeling, climbing, and lifting up to 75 lbs. Field positions may involve heavy lifting, working in varying climates (including outdoor conditions), construction or low-voltage environments, and exposure to dust, noise, or confined spaces. Personal protective equipment (PPE) may be required. Some roles may require travel.
