DESCRIPTION:

The Accounting Analyst role at Fortitude Mining is an exciting opportunity for a motivated and detail-oriented individual to join a dynamic accounting team within one of the most promising and rapidly growing crypto mining start-ups. Reporting to the Accounting Manager, this position plays a key role in maintaining accurate financial records, analyzing financial data, and supporting Fortitude’s broader finance and operations functions. This is a unique chance to join a small, highly professional, and entrepreneurial team backed by industry veterans — with the opportunity to make an immediate impact in a fast-paced and evolving environment at the intersection of crypto, energy, and infrastructure.

Location: Fairport NY - STRONGLY PREFERRED 

Key Responsibilities

  • Support general accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and month-end close procedures.
  • Assist with journal entries, reconciliations, and financial reporting to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Finance, Operations, and external auditors to provide necessary documentation and support.
  • Contribute to the implementation of accounting best practices, internal controls, and process improvements.
  • Participate in ad-hoc accounting and finance projects, including capital projects and systems integrations.

Specific Duties

Audit (PCAOB standard) Support:

  • Support audit requests by preparing detailed schedules, reconciliations, and supporting documentation in compliance with PCAOB standards.
  • Partner with auditors and internal teams to ensure completeness and accuracy of financial reporting, facilitating a smooth year-end audit process. Ensure completeness, accuracy, and proper audit trail for all financial records.
  • Assist in gathering, preparing, and organizing backup for external auditor requests during quarterly reviews and year-end audits.
  • Identify and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner, escalating issues as needed.
  • Support population pulls and sample selection requests for substantive testing.

General Accounting & Fixed Asset Support

  • Prepare and post journal entries; reconcile AP and AR sub-ledgers; analyze financial data for accuracy and completeness.
  • Take leadership of Fixed Asset accounting and associated machine movements / journal entries. 
  • Support the preparation of financial statements and management reports, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow analyses.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support financial reviews, audits, and compliance requirements, including the potential for public reporting.

Accounts Payable & Receivable (Select Activities)

  • Reconcile accounts payable transactions, and own the analysis associated with hosting/energy payments, resolve discrepancies, and maintain accurate vendor records.
  • Assist with month-end close activities, including accruals, aging analysis, and preparation of AP reports.
  • Process incoming payments, apply receipts correctly, and reconcile discrepancies between invoices and payments.
  • Investigate and resolve billing or payment issues, coordinating with Sales, Operations, and Finance.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate degree in accounting required (Bachelor’s degree preferred with a CPA designation).
  • 2-4 years of experience in a similar accounting or finance role.
  • Good understanding of GAAP accounting principles, policies, and practices. 
  • Working knowledge of internal control processes and accounting systems.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to meet deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in public accounting, fixed assets and/or a financial services, technology, or crypto mining company.
  • Interest in Bitcoin, blockchain technology, and emerging digital infrastructure.
  • Experience working in a start-up environment – with a high sense of urgency, adaptability, and comfort with ambiguity.
  • Proficiency in accounting and financial software, NetSuite or similar.
