What will you be doing?
- Programming
- Builds the school’s master schedule and rosters students into courses each year
- Guide the design and implementation of a counseling program that gets results
- Construct annual student outcome goals
- Create action plans and lesson plans for individuals, classrooms and/or groups of students
- Establish visual ways to collect and summarize school data
- Attend Annual School Counselor Conferences to ensure programming is up-to-date
- Program Assessment
- Monitor and record regular student progress through counseling goals, I&RS goals, etc.
- Present an annual results report to determine program effectiveness, inform improvements to program and delivery, and show how students are different as a result of programming.
- Indirect and Direct Delivery of Activities and Services
- Advise and counsel students regarding academic, educational, and short-term social and emotional concerns.
- Remain universally accessible and make an effort to know every student for whom they are responsible.
- Provide individual student planning and responsive services to support students and their families regarding academic matters.
- Instruct through lessons and provide counseling to students through planned activities in small group or classroom settings to convey educational, social, and important school information, and offer workshops/seminars for parents.
- Consult, facilitate, and maintain communication with parents, teachers, administrators, and pertinent agents on specific student and parent academic and educational matters including academic modifications and/or accommodations.
- Provide feedback and recommend appropriate action and solutions to individual student’s academic and educational needs and abilities.
- Participate on a Student Success Team, identify students who may need targeted or intensive services, and coordinates with behavioral health specialists.
- Assist students/parents in understanding school policies and procedures.
- Provide brief counseling to address social and emotional concerns and appropriately refer students to behavioral health specialists.
- Communicate, coordinate, and collaborate with behavioral health specialists on developing and implementing student supports
What do we require from you?
- 2+ years working in an urban or low-income setting preferred
- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent)
- You possess or are eligible for NJ certification in School Counselor
- Must have a track record of measurable success and achievement.

- Semifinalist candidates will be required to provide unofficial transcripts, evidence of certification/eligibility, and 3 professional references.
- Hired candidates are responsible for the following: official transcripts, criminal clearance (fingerprinting), and medical clearance (TB/Mantoux testing).
