Middle School Soccer Coach 2025-2026

Summary
The middle school soccer coach is responsible for coaching middle school student athletes in game strategies and techniques to prepare them for interscholastic Soccer competitions. The individual holding this position motivates student athletes to develop an appreciation of the sport.

- Pass the required criminal history background check and provide proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status.
Certification
- First Aid and CPR Certification
- Completed the Coaching Fundamentals course from the NJSIAA
- AED Certification and Response to Athletic injuries
- State of New Jersey Teaching or Substitute Certification
- Epi-pen Use Certification
Responsibilities
Team Organization & Athlete Recruitment
- Holds meetings for team prospects and encourages potential athletes to participate in the sport.
- Assesses players' skills and assigns team positions.
- Determines game strategy based on the team's capabilities.
- Lead and prioritize fundamental and technical development in the sport.
Practice & Player Development
- Develops a regular practice schedule and organizes practice time to provide both individual and team development.
- Prepares and evaluates practice courts and game courts.
- Coaches and instructs players, individually and in groups, regarding the rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques of the sport.
- Observes players, during competition and practice, to determine the needs for individual or team improvement.
Academic & Behavioral Expectations
- Creates, monitors, and maintains academic study hall
- Maintains weekly academic grade report and submits to Athletic Director
- Monitors the academic performance of team members to ensure that eligibility requirements are met and encourages student-athletes to maintain a high academic standard.
- Establishes and maintains standards of expectation both inside and outside of the classroom and provides proper supervision of athletes at all times.
- Models sports-like behavior and maintains appropriate conduct towards players, officials, and spectators.
- Models non-discriminatory practices in all activities.
Communication & Stakeholder Engagement
- Conferences with parents/guardians, as necessary, regarding the athletic performance of their student.
- Acts as a team representative and promotes the sport by communicating with stakeholders, program donors, service clubs, community groups, and other organizations.
- Participates in special activities to include fundraising, parent's night, banquets, award nights, and pep assemblies.
Compliance, Safety & Procedures
- Follows state, regional, and district regulations governing the athletic program.
- Follows established procedures in the event of an athlete's injury, based upon NJSIAA Regulations.
- Practice emergency procedures in case of inclement weather or response to a School Safety Threat.
Facilities, Equipment & Records Management
- Works with the Asst. Athletic Director and Operations team in scheduling facilities for practices and competition.
- Follows established procedures for the proper care, maintenance, and requisitioning of equipment, supplies, and uniforms.
- Maintains eligibility forms, emergency data cards, insurance records, equipment and uniform inventory, and other related records.
- Maintains all sport data, evaluations, and games in the highest level of accuracy and historical record keeping.
- Works with the Athletic Director in development of a policy for awards and submits a list of award winners at the end of the season.
Qualifications
- Must possess and demonstrate effective coaching techniques and skills.
- Must possess a thorough knowledge of the rules, regulations, strategies, and techniques of the sport.
- Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school administrators, parents, and students.
- Experience as a soccer coach or assistant coach at the recreation, middle, or high school level is preferred.
Perform Other Responsibilities
Performs any other related duties as assigned by the Athletics Operations Manager or Athletic Director and any or other appropriate on site administrator.
