R&D Engineer Co-Op - Spring 2025

Location: Burlington, MA 

Reports to: Sr. Manufacturing Engineer

Position Overview

Fractyl has an opportunity for a co-op student to join our Engineering R&D team. We’re seeking a motivated and talented individual who is enthusiastic about learning while making a difference in the world. At Fractyl, we count on our co-ops as members of project teams to deliver quality results through participating in the rapid design and prototyping initiatives (utilizing 3D printing technology) and authoring important engineering studies and reports. Co-ops leave Fractyl with extensive hands-on experience, having learned real-world medical device industry development processes and regulations.

Primary Responsibilities 

The Mechanical/Biomedical Engineering co-op may support the engineering team through the following activities: 

  • Design and fabrication of prototypes for future generations of medical devices.
  • Development, execution, analysis & reporting of engineering tests.
  • Design, prototyping, and development of manufacturing & test fixtures.
  • Support pre-clinical medical device and pharmaceuticals research.
  • Perform all activities in compliance with applicable regulations, Fractyl’s policies and guidelines, including, but not limited to, timely documentation of activities and maintaining all required applicable training.
  • Bring a “can do” spirit to work and deliver on other responsibilities as assigned. 

Education or Certification Requirements 

  • Pursuing undergraduate or graduate degree in Mechanical, Biomedical Engineering (with a medical device concentration) or equivalent engineering practice.

 Technical Skills and Experience 

  • Working knowledge of SolidWorks and Microsoft Office. CAD experience essential.
  • Some experience in biotech, pharmaceutical and/or medical device industries preferred.
  • Minitab or equivalent statistical software experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of general lab safety practices preferred.
  • Prior vocational experience in related fields a plus (i.e. co-ops, Internships, Fellowships, etc.).
