Salary: $100,000 – $105,000 annually
Position Overview
The Assistant Stage Manager (ASM) supports the execution and daily stage management operations of MAGIC MIKE LIVE NEW YORK CITY. This role works closely with the Production Stage Manager (PSM) to ensure seamless backstage coordination, performer readiness, and consistent show execution while upholding the high production standards of the show.
The Assistant Stage Manager plays a key role in maintaining organization and communication backstage, supporting rehearsals, tracking show elements, and assisting in the overall flow of performances. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, proactive, and thrives in a fast-paced live entertainment environment.
Key Responsibilities
SHOW EXECUTION
- Assist in the execution of all performances, supporting the PSM in maintaining pacing, choreography, and technical integrity.
- Track cues and support coordination across lighting, sound, video, automation, and staging as assigned on stage level, mezzanine and tech gallery.
- Ensure all necessary pre-show and post-show checks are completed.
- Assist with/run props tracks on deck as needed.
- Visual monitoring and calling “clears” for performer aerial routines.
- Maintain accuracy of show paperwork and assist with updates to calling scripts, cue sheets, and reports.
- Be prepared to assume calling responsibilities and execute the show in the event of an emergency or if the Production Stage Manager is unavailable.
STAGE MANAGEMENT OPERATIONS
- Support the PSM in maintaining show flow, performer readiness, and backstage organization.
- Take ownership of assigned backstage tracks, including deck management, props, and performer movement.
- Maintain clear and effective communication between performers, technicians, wardrobe, and management.
- Help foster a calm, organized, and focused backstage environment during high-energy performances.
REHEARSALS & SHOW MAINTENANCE
- Assist in scheduling and running rehearsals, including understudy rehearsals, cast changes, and maintenance sessions.
- Track blocking, choreography, and staging updates.
- Support integration and onboarding of new cast members.
- Maintain organization of rehearsal materials and documentation.
SAFETY & PERFORMANCE STANDARDS
- Maintain adherence to all backstage safety protocols and procedures.
- Ensure safe handling of props, set pieces, and technical elements.
- Support enforcement of safety practices related to choreography, staging, and aerial.
- Respond quickly to any operational or performance issues as directed by the Production Stage Manager.
REPORTING & COMMUNICATION
- Assist in the preparation of nightly performance reports, including show notes and technical issues.
- Communicate effectively with the PSM regarding backstage activity and show needs.
- Maintain accurate and organized records as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
- 3–5 years of professional stage management experience in live theater or immersive entertainment.
- Experience working on technically complex productions preferred.
- Experience in shows with aerial acts a plus.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- High attention to detail and strong follow-through.
- Ability to remain calm and responsive in a live performance setting.
- Ability to stand for extended periods (3–4 hours) and work in a nightclub-style environment.
- Ability to lift 20–30 pounds.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE
- Experience working on New York City or other resident productions.
- Background in choreography-driven productions and/or immersive entertainment.
- Familiarity with long-running show maintenance and cast rotation processes.
