Sustainability Manager, Lyft Europe
Location: Barcelona
At Freenow by Lyft, our purpose is to serve and connect. We aim to achieve this by cultivating a work environment where all team members belong and have the opportunity to thrive.
Lyft’s Global Sustainability team drives the company’s sustainability strategy, decarbonization, risk management, and reporting commitments across the markets we operate in. As Freenow by Lyft continues to expand its European operations, the regulatory landscape (e.g., CSRD, CSDDD, EU Taxonomy, and electric vehicle mandates) is becoming more complex. This team partners closely with Legal, Finance, Operations, and Global Growth to ensure Lyft not only meets its compliance obligations but builds sustainability practices that scale with the business.
We’re searching for a strategic, detail-oriented operator to join as Sustainability Manager for Freenow by Lyft, based in Barcelona. This person will report to Lyft’s Global Sustainability Manager, own strategy implementation and reporting of Lyft’s sustainability initiatives across our European markets, with a particular focus on navigating the EU’s regulatory environment. This is a foundational role for the region: you’ll build the infrastructure, data management processes, and stakeholder relationships needed to ensure Lyft is ahead of evolving disclosure requirements while advancing the company’s broader sustainability goals.
YOUR DAILY ADVENTURES WILL INCLUDE:
Regulatory Strategy & Compliance
- Own Lyft Europe’s sustainability implementation and roadmap, ensuring alignment with global sustainability goals and evolving EU regulatory requirements (CSRD, TCFD, and related frameworks).
- Monitor the EU regulatory landscape for emerging sustainability requirements and translate them into actionable business recommendations.
- Partner with Legal to interpret new and upcoming regulations and assess their operational impact.
Carbon Accounting & Data Management
- Lead carbon accounting efforts across Lyft Europe, including data collection, decarbonization target progress, and identification of reduction opportunities.
- Build and maintain data management systems and processes to ensure sustainability data is accurate, auditable, and scalable as reporting requirements grow.
- Design, document, and launch project management processes for sustainability initiatives, replacing ad hoc approaches with structured, repeatable systems.
Reporting & Disclosure
- Manage Lyft’s sustainability reporting and disclosure processes for European stakeholders, including requirements for CDP, EcoVadis, and enterprise client requests.
- Prepare insights for Lyft’s senior leadership and board on key sustainability insights across impacts, risks, and opportunities when relevant.
- Support the Global Sustainability Manager on cross-regional reporting, bringing a European regulatory lens to global sustainability strategy.
Stakeholder & Partner Engagement
- Manage relationships with key external stakeholders, including consultants and reporting/ratings bodies (e.g., CDP, EcoVadis).
- Partner cross-functionally with Finance, Legal, Real Estate, Procurement, B2B, and Global Growth teams to embed sustainability considerations into European business decisions.
TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN THIS ROLE:
- Experience: 4–5+ years of experience in sustainability, strategy, or business development roles, with a track record of independently owning outcomes.
- Project Management: Proven experience managing detailed, multi-stakeholder projects, including designing and scaling processes from ad hoc to structured and repeatable.
- Data & Carbon Accounting: Hands-on experience with data management and carbon accounting, using data to inform strategy and decision-making.
- Reporting Frameworks: Experience with sustainability reporting and disclosure frameworks such as TCFD, CDP, and EcoVadis.
- Sustainability Regulatory Acumen: Strong understanding of EU and UK sustainability laws and regulations, including CSRD and CSDDD.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Proven ability to manage relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including working with consultants.
- Technical Toolkit: Proficiency with carbon accounting and ESG data platforms (e.g., Workiva), CDP/EcoVadis reporting portals, and strong Google suite skills; familiarity with project management tools (e.g., Jira) is a plus.
- Language: Fluency in English required; additional European language proficiency is a plus.
