Staff Product Manager

Remote - USA

FreeWill is an award-winning, social-good startup that has partnered with 2,200+ nonprofits who support our mission while generating $12B in gift commitments for nonprofits since we were founded in 2017. We’ve been featured in the New York Times, Forbes, Oprah’s magazine, and our co-CEOs have even been named to Town & Country’s “Top 50 Philanthropists” list.

All of this is because we’ve figured out how to make some powerful (but complicated!) ways to donate much easier and more accessible. Our products make things easier for the donors who want to change the world and for nonprofits doing heroic work around the planet.

In the last 8 years, we’ve grown from 5 people to 200+ (all smart, tenacious, and kind), and continue to grow. We’d love to have you be a part of this adventure. In 2024, we were named a "Most Loved Workplace" by both Newsweek and Best Practice Institute and in 2025, we were named as one of Forbes' Best Startup Employers and the 2025 Most Loved Workplaces® for Diversity; you can also check us out on Glassdoor! Full-time • Excellent Benefits  • Work from Anywhere in the US (except AL, CO, or LA)

About the role

FreeWill is seeking a seasoned and strategic Staff Product Manager to join our R&D organization and lead the development of new and scaling products that help nonprofits raise more money and individuals leave meaningful legacies. This is a senior IC (individual contributor) role that operates at the intersection of strategy, user experience, and cross-functional execution and will collaborate with senior leadership to unlock value for our nonprofit partners and end users.

You’ll be responsible for driving complex, high-impact product initiatives and will bring a strong track record of launching products and scaling them successfully from the introduction phase through their growth phase grounded in user research and product rigor. You’ll work cross-functionally with design, engineering, sales, customer success, and marketing in our remote-first, global team — including our offshore partners in Pakistan, and ensure alignment between our product vision and company mission.

Ideal candidates will bring a strong track record of end-to-end product ownership and a bias for action grounded in rigorous user insight as well as experience leading distributed teams with offshore engineering partners (especially in South Asia or Eastern Europe). This role reports to the Vice President of Research & Development and is part of a high-caliber team building technology that matters and plays a key role in driving FreeWill’s next stage of growth.

FreeWill has set compensation and a non-negotiation policy for fairness reasons (we don't think that an individual's pay should be determined by how comfortable they are negotiating). As a result, we like to be transparent and up front about the compensation. When we make an offer, we provide multiple options so that employees can choose between compensation packages that prioritize salary or stock options. The base salary offers for this role will be between $190,000 and $210,000; offers will also include stock options.

Responsibilities

  • Lead product strategy and execution for some of FreeWill’s most important new and scaling products — from customer discovery to product market fit to full-scale adoption
  • Define and communicate product vision, roadmap, and KPIs with cross-functional teams and senior leadership aligned to company objectives, balancing long-term vision with near-term impact
  • Operate as a trusted thought partner to the VP of R&D and other senior leaders, shaping our overall product direction and long-term bets
  • Drive a rigorous, insight-driven product development process, including deep discovery research, structured experimentation, and strategic synthesis
  • Champion user research and product discovery best practices; help institutionalize human-centered design across teams
  • Collaborate effectively with global engineering and design partners, including offshore teams in South Asia to scale product development effectively
  • Influence and mentor other PMs and team members, contributing to a culture of product excellence
  • Serve as a voice of the customer and nonprofit community within the company, ensuring we’re solving real, high-impact problems with elegance and empathy
  • Partner closely with Revenue, Marketing, and Customer Success to ensure go-to-market readiness, adoption, and high-impact business outcomes

Required Skills and Experience

  • 10+ years of product management experience, including senior-level IC roles with strategic scope
  • Proven success taking introduction 0-1 stage new products and scaling them into sustainable, high-growth businesses
  • Strong expertise in user research and product discovery — you build with insight, validate with data and have built entire roadmaps based on insights from the field
  • Prior experience working with remote engineering collaboration, ideally with offshore teams in South Asia or Eastern Europe
  • Proven ability to set vision and strategy and drive clarity in areas of ambiguity
  • Strong strategic thinking, organizational influence, and communication across technical and non-technical audiences and stakeholders
  • Exceptional communication skills and comfort interacting with executives and cross-functional teams
  • Familiarity with AI software products

Nice to Have but Not Required

  • Deep experience working in or building products for the nonprofit, philanthropic, or adjacent mission-driven sectors
  • Exposure to estate planning, planned giving, or financial services
  • Experience in high-growth SaaS companies with a multi-product portfolio
  • Familiarity with nonprofit CRMs (e.g., Salesforce, Blackbaud) or donation platforms
  • Track record of mentoring product managers and upleveling product culture

FreeWill is an equal opportunity employer and we value diversity. We are committed to finding talent that is not determined on the basis of race, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, disability status, or any other characteristic protected by law.

We are a remote-first company that’s able to hire in 47 states and D.C. Unfortunately, we are unable to hire in Colorado, Alabama, or Louisiana at this time. We also can’t sponsor working visas, so all applicants will need to have work authorization in the US.

Don’t check off every box in the requirements listed above? Please apply anyway! Studies have shown that marginalized communities - such as women, LGBTQ+ and people of color - are less likely to apply to jobs unless they meet every single qualification. FreeWill is dedicated to building an inclusive, diverse, equitable, and accessible workplace that fosters a sense of belonging – so if you’re excited about this role but your past experience doesn’t align perfectly with every qualification in the job description, we encourage you to still consider submitting an application. You may be just the right candidate for this role or another one of our openings!

AI Policy

We are excited to engage with candidates who can demonstrate their experience and skills through their own words and work, not through AI-generated content. We want to understand your genuine interest in the company and your unique perspectives, not simply AI-driven responses. We ask that you refrain from use of AI-generated content during the hiring process which includes phone screens, video interviews, tech screens, or other assessment stages except as otherwise indicated to you by the Recruiter.

For example: Using ChatGPT to generate scripted answers to application questions or during phone screens and video interviews is strongly discouraged and will result in not moving forward in the hiring process. However, the use of an AI design tool to enhance the design of a presentation deck is permitted.

The Recruiter will be able to provide additional guidance during the hiring process if needed. If hired at FreeWill, we do encourage the use of AI in your role to build upon or enhance your skill set.

If you believe you belong to any of the categories of protected veterans listed below, please indicate by making the appropriate selection. As a government contractor subject to the Vietnam Era Veterans Readjustment Assistance Act (VEVRAA), we request this information in order to measure the effectiveness of the outreach and positive recruitment efforts we undertake pursuant to VEVRAA. Classification of protected categories is as follows:

A "disabled veteran" is one of the following: a veteran of the U.S. military, ground, naval or air service who is entitled to compensation (or who but for the receipt of military retired pay would be entitled to compensation) under laws administered by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs; or a person who was discharged or released from active duty because of a service-connected disability.

Voluntary Self-Identification of Disability

Form CC-305
OMB Control Number 1250-0005
Expires 04/30/2026

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
